You call and inquire about a dog available for adoption. You make the drive—no matter the miles—because you fell in love with a dog's photo. You come to meet them, introduce them to your current dog, and watch them become instant friends. You sign the paperwork, and just like that, you've added a forever best friend to your family.
Today, that lucky dog is Moose! ❤️
Moose, ole boy, you deserve every bit of this happiness. From shelter life to a home filled with love, adventures, toys, and a family all your own—we couldn't be happier for you.

We can't wait to see all the memories you'll make and the places you'll go. Play hard, love big, and enjoy every moment of your new life.

A bittersweet day for all of us. ❤️

Everyone who knows Rumor knows just how truly special she is. Her sweet personality, loving heart, and joyful spirit have touched so many lives during her time with us for 240 days.

Today, while our hearts are sad to say goodbye, they are also overflowing with happiness because Rumor has found a WONDERFUL family to call her own. She spent her time here sharing her love with us, and now she gets to share that same love with a family who will cherish her forever.

Rumor, you are going to be missed more than words can express. You deserve every bit of happiness that is waiting for you. Thank you for the smiles, the love, and the memories you gave us. We hope you'll remember us as fondly as we will always remember you.

Today isn't goodbye—it's the beginning of your forever. We wish you a lifetime of love, adventures, belly rubs, and happiness.

A huge thank you again to Durand Schools for always supporting our shelter through your fundraising efforts and for welcoming us and our pups. We love visiting and sharing the joy our dogs bring with all of you.
Your kindness, generosity, and continued support make a difference for the animals in our care. Thank you for helping us give them the love and opportunities they deserve! 🐶❤️

📢 Updated Shelter Hours 📢

We'd like to share our updated weekday and weekend hours with our community!
We know many people work during the week, so expanding our weekend hours gives more opportunities to visit, volunteer, spend time with our dogs, and hopefully find a new best friend.
A staff member is always on-site during these hours. Our dedicated Animal Control Officer begins each weekday at the shelter at 8:00 AM with the pups before heading out across Shiawassee County, answering calls and helping animals in need—our very own busy Ace Ventura!

We hope this helps clear up any confusion regarding our hours and when staff is present.

We have had so much interest in Moose! Lots of calls, messages, and inquiries about this handsome boy. With so many people reaching out, it can sometimes get a little confusing with the "Someone is coming today to visit" and "put me second in line" conversations.
We absolutely love seeing so many people interested in Mr. Moose, but as of right now, he is still available and still waiting for his forever family!
Moose is ready to find someone who will enjoy his endless enthusiasm, his love of toys and balls, and his big heart. If you're looking for a fun, active companion who will keep you smiling and on your toes, Moose just might be your perfect match.

A new week and a brand-new month are here, but for these shelter pups, their biggest wish hasn't changed—they're still hoping that this is the month their forever family finds them.
Every day they wait patiently, dreaming of a home, a comfy bed, belly rubs, adventures, and a family to call their own. Maybe that family is yours, or maybe it's someone you know.

🩷This beautiful girl came to us after being found wandering around. From the moment she arrived, Gracie showed everyone what a perfect lady she was. She patiently waited through her stray hold, always gentle, sweet, and loving.

As the days passed, no one called, stopped by, or reported her missing. While that was heartbreaking, Gracie's story was about to get a happy ending.

The woman who helped save her saw exactly what we saw—a truly special dog. It didn't take long for her to realize Gracie belonged with her, and she officially welcomed this sweet girl into her family.

Congratulations, sweet girl. Your new chapter starts now. ❤️🐾🏡

It’s that time of year again… the annual Curwood Festival Parade is next weekend! 🎉🎈

Be sure to keep an eye out for the Shiawassee Animal Control truck rolling through this year. Special guest Rumor will be making an appearance alongside Deputy Safi! 🐾🚓

Give them a big wave and say hello as they pass by — and don’t forget to bring your candy-catching skills because we’ll be handing out plenty of sweet treats and goodies! 🍬🍫🍭📿

Your kindness and generosity means so much to us and to the dogs waiting for loving homes.
Deputy Safi, Lieutenant Herrick, and our girl RUMOR had a great time visiting all the awesome students today to personally thank everyone for their support. It was wonderful seeing such caring kids come together to help animals in need.
