A couple of Elliot’s freshly hatched poults! One that is showing sweet grass potential and one that is looking more Narragansett mix like the momma. Of course, one chunky little butt thought they had it made in the food dish.

At least one momma is letting the boys check things out. I know Ronin has been waiting to see his babies.

Well, my husband had bought two little goats last weekend from a lady who lives in bumpass. I quickly noticed a couple days later the smallest one seemed like he was having issues walking with his front legs, but the slightly older one seemed to be doing okay. The lady messaged my husband about a day later saying her goats had Cocci… she said she would give him medicine for treatment. Only two days later after giving them the medicine that she gave us, the goat that appeared healthy was weak and could no longer walk…. I don’t know if it was the medicine or if he goats just had issues, but for anyone local, I would be leery of anyone in bumpass with a lot of goats who is selling. She claimed she was getting out of goats and I can imagine if other people had bought sick goats from her that complaints were made. We contacted her last night about the older goat and haven’t gotten any response back yet. I just want to get the word out for anyone local who might be looking for goats. I do not know her name, my husband was the one interacting with her and I’m sure he won’t tell me. What I do know is that she supposedly has pigmy and Nigerians. Stay diligent my friends.

So my day was supposed to be fairly simple… get up, check on chicks and chickens, pick up the yard and mow and begin unboxing a coop to put together and start the work before going to get a trim, some oddities from Home Depot and picking up some peachicks…. And yet….
I wake up to find that five turkey poults that hatched earlier this week had somehow had a water party and soaked themselves… four didn’t make it, I’m keeping an eye on number five…. They have a small 8oz water filter with a small basin… no way they could’ve taken a swim… then I spent an hour cleaning p**p balls off some other turkey poults feet since I realized my husband put mats in their brooder and it was well over due for them to come out… then I finally got around to checking on all the other birds, then I finally picked up the yard and by then I was hungry… was going to eat after mowing…. Oh well. Now I will be mowing in the heat, and won’t have as much time with the coop. Uhg. Just another farm day!

Next year I have to decide…. Do I want to invest in ultramarine peacock eggs or do I want to invest in charcoal peacock eggs? I’m a sucker for dark peafowl! ❤️🦚

Now that they’ve been in the brooder for almost a week, their colors are coming out better. Still not exactly sure what we’ve hatched so far other than the basics. Looks like most of them are some sort of pied, which given the parents, is a given. Otherwise I’m being told a couple or a few look like they could be purple, which neither parent are purple so might be a recessive gene. It’s possible the darkest one might turn out to be a Spaulding baby. So I will watch them as they grow. I will likely put the almost twins up for sale, and keep the dark and the silver pied to see how they further grow for now.
