The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year. Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder and at Petsmart adoption events. Dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come from many other states. If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for th

e animals in our care. Although we are about 1.5 hours away from the Washington, D.C. metro area, it is an easy drive. You can even make a day of it and stop off at country stores, Civil War battlefield sites and a huge mall complex in Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg. And after all, what is a few hours in drive time when you will be meeting your new best friend? If you need help getting here, call us for directions.

🚨 ENZO UPDATE — AND IT’S A BIG ONE! 🚨

After surgery on BOTH knees and months of recovery, Enzo had his recheck and the news is GOOD. ❤️

The bones in both knees have healed extremely well and Enzo has been cleared for normal dog life — running, playing with other dogs and roaming the yard. He’s already regained a good amount of muscle and will continue getting stronger over the next several months.

His left kneecap can still slip in and out of place, likely because of how long he lived with those injuries. As he continues building muscle, that should happen less often. He may always have a little limp when first getting up after a long nap, but his veterinarian is very happy with his progress.

And guys... LOOK AT HIM.

Every update from his foster has been encouraging. Enzo has settled into home life, discovered the joy of couches, perfected sleeping in completely ridiculous positions and shown us the soft, goofy side of this big Cane Corso who weighs around 120 pounds.

Now comes the part we’ve been waiting for:

ENZO IS READY TO MEET POTENTIAL ADOPTERS.

Enzo will need someone with Cane Corso or similar guardian-breed experience who understands that he doesn’t hand his trust to strangers immediately. His foster is working on slow, positive introductions with new people, and his adopter will need to continue helping him build that confidence.

His foster gave him the safe place, time and care he needed to heal.

Now we need to find the person who will give him the place he gets to stay. ❤️

LOOK at our girl! 🥹

Ellie’s first few days were a whirlwind of energy while everyone learned each other, but with a little patience she is settling in beautifully!

She and Maverick are learning to be buddies—walks, games of tug and even some chill time together. She’s meeting new people, learning her routine and showing just how smart and eager to please she is.

And apparently she has now been officially invited onto the couch. Judging by these pictures, Ellie Belly considers that invitation PERMANENT. 😂❤️

***ADOPTED

Little Bit is a 4-year-old, 16-pound Bichon/Cockapoo mix who was surrendered when his owner could no longer physically or financially care for him.

He arrived with an overgrown, heavily matted coat, so we got to work making him more comfortable—and we found those sweet little eyeballs hiding underneath!

Little Bit is gentle, sweet and understandably a little overwhelmed by all the changes in his world. He has done well with other dogs, although calmer canine friends may be more his speed. For now, we're keeping things slow and giving him time to settle in before introducing even more new experiences.

He was reportedly housebroken in his previous home, and his future family will need to give him patience as he adjusts to a new home and routine.

And that beautiful coat? Regular grooming will be a lifelong necessity to keep Little Bit healthy, comfortable and mat-free.

For now, Little Bit is looking for a little security, a lot of kindness and a family ready to give him the time he needs to feel safe again.

❤️ AN UPDATE ON REMI — FOSTER NEEDED

Yesterday, we reintroduced Remi, who returned to us after being adopted as a healthy 5-month-old puppy in April 2023.

Today, we have an update we wish we didn’t.

From the information provided when Remi returned, it appears he did not receive routine veterinary care during his years away from us. Yesterday’s testing showed that Remi is now heartworm positive and Lyme positive.

In addition to adjusting to life back at the shelter, Remi now has heartworm treatment ahead of him.

We would love to find him a stable, understanding foster home where he can decompress, settle into a routine and have someone willing to work with him through treatment.

Remi needs someone willing to invest in him now with patience, consistency and stability.

Can you be that person for Remi? ❤️🐾

Our beautiful girl was absolutely feeling herself yesterday—and frankly, we get it.

Those eyes. That gorgeous chocolate coat. That smile. And that unmistakable “Okay, enough with the pictures—where are the snacks?” expression. 😂

🐾 HERE’S REMI!

Look who has found his way back to us. ❤️

Remi is a 3-year, 10-month-old, 56.8-pound Mountain Cur who was adopted from us as a puppy in 2023 and recently returned due to a move.

He's understandably a little anxious about finding himself back at the shelter, but we're already seeing that sweet, happy Remi smile again.

Remi does have an adventurous streak—when bored, he's been known to plan his own field trips—so this boy needs a family ready to keep that Cur brain and body busy and the exits securely closed. 😂

For now, we're getting reacquainted with grown-up Remi and giving him a little time to settle.

Welcome back, handsome boy. Now let's find you the home that sticks. ❤️🐾
