Since 1954, West End Shelter for Animals has been proud to serve our community and help thousands of pets find safety, care, and loving homes.

What began as a local animal control facility has evolved into the no-kill organization we are today. Over the past 72 years, we've grown, adapted, and continued our mission of helping animals and the people who love them. None of this would have been possible without the support of our community.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and volunteers who work tirelessly every day to keep our animals healthy, safe, and loved while they wait for their forever homes.

And finally, thank you. Yes, you—the person reading this. Whether you've adopted a pet, donated supplies, volunteered your time, attended a clinic, shared our posts, or simply cheered us on, you have played a role in our story.

Your support has made these past 72 years possible, and it will help carry us into the future.

🎉 Join Us for Our First-Ever California Adopt-a-Pet Day! 🎉

West End Shelter for Animals is excited to participate in our very first California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday, June 6th! Thanks to this statewide event, all adoption fees will be waived for approved adopters as we work to help more shelter pets find loving homes.

Whether you're looking for a playful puppy, a loyal companion, or a cuddly cat, this is the perfect opportunity to meet your new best friend. Come celebrate with us and help give deserving animals the forever homes they've been waiting for!

🐾 Meet Tupac! 🐾

Tupac is a 4-year-old Pit Bull who has been waiting for a home for over 900 days. Sadly, he was found tied to our fence with no information, but that hasn't stopped him from being one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met.

This handsome guy is big, strong, and full of personality! Tupac loves spending time with people and is ready to find a family that will give him the love and stability he deserves. After all this time, we think it's finally his turn.

Tupac would do best in a home without cats.

🐾 June Low-Cost Vaccination Clinics 🐾

Join West End Shelter for Animals this June for our low-cost walk-up vaccination clinics! We’re here to help keep your pets healthy with affordable vaccination and wellness services for dogs and cats.

We’re also excited to share that our updated vaccination services begin this month, including the addition of the Lepto vaccine for dogs in accordance with current veterinary guidelines.

Clinic Rules:
• Dogs must be leashed or carried
• Cats must be in carriers
• Pets must be handled by an adult 18+
• Cash only
• First-come, first-served — no appointments

📣 Vaccination Service Updates Beginning June 1, 2026 🐾

West End Shelter for Animals is updating its vaccination services beginning June 1, 2026 to better serve our community and keep pets healthy and protected.

What’s new?
• Leptospirosis (L4) vaccination will now be available for dogs in accordance with updated AAHA guidelines recognizing it as a core vaccine.
• Deworming services have been updated to better reflect the treatments offered, along with adjusted pricing.

We’re also introducing West End Recommended Vaccinations on our website — a simple guide designed to help pet owners better understand which vaccines their pets may need and how those services are available through WESA.

As veterinary medicine continues to evolve, we’re committed to growing with it while continuing to offer affordable, accessible care for our community’s pets.

🐾 Meet Sparkle! 🐾

Sparkle is a beautiful Tabby & White kitty who is about 1 year old—and she truly lives up to her name. She is the sweetest little thing ever.

Watch the video all the way to the end for a surprise!

When you first meet Sparkle, she can be a little shy and likes to take a moment to see what’s going on around her. But once you give her a few gentle scratches, she opens right up into the most loving cuddle bug with so much affection to give.

Sparkle would make the perfect companion for the right family. She would do best in a quieter home, as fast movements and loud noises can make her nervous, so a home without young children would be best for her. She’s never been around dogs before, so we’re unsure how she would feel about them.

Sparkle originally came to us from someone’s backyard, and now she’s hoping her next stop is a forever home of her own.

🐾 Meet Maggie! 🐾

Maggie is a sweet French Bulldog/Pug mix with the most beautiful smile. We’re estimating she’s around 4–5 years old, as she was sadly left here by her previous owners with no information at all.

Poor Maggie was left behind like she was nothing—but we made sure she got everything she needed. Now she’s healthy, cared for, and ready for a fresh start.

Maggie is:

Now she’s only missing one thing… a loving forever home.

Kitten season is in full swing and we currently have lots of kittens in our care! With so many little mouths to feed, our supply of canned wet cat food is running a little low.

If you’d like to help, we would be so grateful for your support. Donations can be sent directly to the shelter through our Chewy Wish List from the comfort of your home, or you’re always welcome to drop off donations during business hours.
