The Coulee Region Humane Society acquires stray animals from La Crosse County. We are required by Wisconsin State Statute to hold an animal at our shelter for four days, allowing time for the owner to reclaim that animal. If an owner does not come forward within the four-day stray hold, the unclaimed animal legally becomes the property of our shelter, at which point it would be evaluated for adopt

ion. An owner can come forward and reclaim an animal at any time, even if it is past the initial four days as long as the animal is still in our care and not approved for adoption. He or she must provide proof of pet ownership in order to reclaim and will be required to license the animal if it is not currently licensed to their municipality. Licensing can be done at the Coulee Region Humane Society; a rabies certificate or prepaid proof of vaccination is required. Animals will be posted on the Lost Pets page as soon as possible when they arrive at our shelter. We strongly recommend that you call the shelter to fill out a Lost Report as soon as your pet goes missing. If you believe your missing pet is at our shelter, please call 608-781-4014 or visit us during our business hours at 911 Critter Court in Onalaska. This page is in no way a substitute for filing a lost and/or found report at our shelter. We will not respond to Facebook inquiries.
