On July 4th, while many people were getting ready to celebrate, Izzy was missing.

She had escaped from a home in rural Osage County, Kansas, and her family needed help fast.

KC Pet Search & Rescue was contacted, and the recovery process began.

The weather was not perfect. The area was rural. The search was not simple.

I want to take a moment to give some much-deserved recognition to Richard Jackson.

For anyone who may not know Richard’s story, he was actually one of my cat recovery customers earlier this year. When I first worked with him, I could tell right away that he had an incredible heart for pets and for the people going through the pain of having one missing.

We trapped Richard’s cat after three weeks of being gone — and I say “we” because Richard was not just standing by. He was involved, paying attention, making suggestions, and was a major part of getting his own cat home.

That experience inspired him to start working with me. I could tell quickly that this was not only a good fit for expanding KC Pet Search & Rescue — it was the right fit.

Since then, Richard has helped recover many cats, and his passion, patience, and wisdom have helped evolve our program in a very real way. Not every case ends the way we hope. Some recoveries are successful, and some come with painful loss. Richard has been there with cat owners in both the good moments and the hard ones.

**Marko is home. ❤️**

Marko, a 6-year-old indoor-only cat (Shawnee, KS), slipped outside after a very clever move from one of the other cats in the home. His owner was in full panic mode after trying everything she could to catch him herself.

She called KC Pet Search & Rescue early the next morning, and within a couple of hours, Richard was at her door helping build a real plan to bring Marko home safely.

Richard went above and beyond on this recovery. He conducted a search, walked the owner through the best recovery strategy, and gave her a plan when she needed one most.
