Flea and ticks this year are in higher numbers than in years past, so make sure your dog is up to date on their flea, tick, and heartworm prevention before spending more time outdoors.

With summer cookouts and barbeques right around the corner, remember to keep in mind that some common cookout foods can be harmful to dogs. Onions, garlic, grapes, and certain sugar-free products containing xylitol should be avoided. When in doubt, stick to plain, dog-safe proteins like a small piece of unseasoned chicken or beef.

As summer temperatures get closer, it's a great time to brush up on summer safety for your pup. Hot pavement can be hazardous for sensitive paws this time of year. Before you take your dog for a walk, check the temperature by pressing the back of your hand to the pavement for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
