Meet Knox — a fun loving, energetic girl who is ready to fill your days with adventure, playtime, and plenty of personality.

Knox is the kind of dog who makes you want to get up, grab the leash, grab the ball, and go. She has a playful spirit, a zest for life, and an energy that is impossible not to smile at.

She loves having something to do. She loves getting outside. She loves being part of the action. And if you’ve got a ball in your hand? You’ve officially got Knox’s attention.

But what Knox really needs is someone who wants to live life with her.

Someone who enjoys long walks and exploring new places.

Someone who wants an adventure buddy by their side.

🐾New Gate: Dog Inspected, Dog Approved🐾

Our pups have been hard at work conducting a very thorough inspection of the new gates in our play yard and we're happy to report it has officially passed quality control 🐶✅

A HUGE thank you to Alpine Fence LLC for helping make our yard safer and more secure for the dogs in our care. Having a safe outdoor space means our pups can spend their time doing the important things: stretch their legs, soak up some sunshine, and burn off those shelter dog zoomies ☀🐾

We are incredibly grateful to the businesses who help us continue making the shelter a better place for the animals who call it their temporary home. ❤

And according to Falcor - the ✨official✨ gate inspector? This gate is 10/10!

From our pups to yours, Happy National Dog Day! ❤️

Today is all about celebrating the tail wags, sloppy kisses, zoomies, couch hogging, treat begging, suspiciously selective hearing, and unconditional love that dogs bring into our lives every single day. 🥹🐕

Whether your best friend is a tiny lap dog, a 90-pound “lap dog,” a distinguished senior, a chaotic puppy, or the world’s finest mixed-breed mystery - give them an extra treat, an extra snuggle, or maybe an extra-long walk today. 🦴🐾

And, of course, we’ll be giving plenty of love to the pups spending National Dog Day with us while they wait for families of their very own. 🏡❤️

❤️🐾❤️ Meet Trigger! 12 years old and still ready for his next adventure.

Trigger didn't come to us because he wasn't loved. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

When his owner was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer care for him, they had to make the incredibly difficult decision to surrender their longtime companion. Now, we're hoping we can help make sure the next chapter of Trigger's story is a good one.

And don't let that 12 years old fool you! Trigger apparently missed the memo about being a senior. 😂

This handsome hound mix is about 30lbs, outgoing, confident, and still very much young at heart. He loves to run, loves being part of the action, and is more than ready for a few more adventures.

Even better? Trigger has done well with cats, dogs, kids, AND seniors. He's an all-around good boy who has spent 12 years learning how to be somebody's companion, and he's pretty darn good at it.

We know adopting a senior isn't for everyone. Trigger may not be able to promise you another 12 years, but he can promise that whatever time he has left will be filled with love, companionship, goofy hound antics, and a whole lot of tail wags.

Trigger still has some good years ahead of him. He just needs someone to spend them with. ❤️🐾

In Latin, it comes from a word meaning “true,” “real,” and “genuine.”

The perfect name for a perfect dog ♥️✨

Vera is our longest resident here at the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA. Not because she has done anything wrong. Not because she isn’t a wonderful dog.

Sometimes, a dog simply gets overlooked.

Vera is a Shepherd and Cane Corso mix, and she has the kind of look that can make people pass her by before they ever stop to find out who she really is. And that is such a shame, because there is so much more to Vera than what you see in a picture.

This girl is a trooper. She has waited. She has been patient. And she is still here, hoping that someone will finally see her for the dog she truly is. Tail always wagging and a big smile on her face!

We wish people could see her the way we do. Because pictures and a few words online can only tell you so much.

Please come meet her. Spend a little time with her. Come for a walk with her. Get to know her.

Maybe you’ll be the person who finally meets her and decides that she is the dog you can’t live without! ♥️

🐾APPLICATIONS CLOSED FOR ATHENA AND COCO🐾

Applications for Coco and Athena are officially closed today, August 19th, at 4:00PM. We've received a ton of applications, and we are so grateful to everyone willing to open their home and heart to one of these babies 🐶

Over the next few days, our staff will be carefully reviewing each application as we work to find the best possible forever home for each of these pups. If you submitted an application, keep an eye on your email and phone! We'll be reaching out as we work through the adoption process, and we'll keep everyone updated on their status.

Meet Coco! 🐾❤️

Coco is a 1 year old Chihuahua mix with one pretty impressive shelter review:

"I don't normally like Chihuahuas, but I LOVE Coco." - Staff member, Jenn 😂

And really, we think that sums him up!

Coco may need a smidge of time to warm up when he first meets you, but once you're in his circle, prepare to fall in love. This extra-good boy loves to play, loves his walks, and is more than happy to curl up for a good snuggle when the adventure is over. If you've got somewhere to go, Coco would very much like to come along!

Coco has lived with kids and does great with them. He's been the only pet in his previous home, so we're not yet sure how he'd feel about sharing his new family with another furry friend. He's also house trained AND crate trained (somebody give this good boy a gold star!)⭐

Whether you're heading out for a walk, hopping in the car for your next adventure, or settling onto the couch for the evening, Coco is ready to be your little sidekick.

All he needs now is someone whose lap he can wiggle his way onto... and whose heart he can steal while he's there. ❤️

🐾Meet Denali! 🐾

Denali is what we like to call a "North Country Special" - aka, a good old-fashioned question mark! We’re not quite sure what went into making this beautiful girl, she appears to be a Shepherd mix of some sort. But we do know she came out absolutely adorable. ❤️

At 11 weeks old, Denali is in love with every human she meets and eager to learn! She came to us slightly underweight, so she has a BIG love for food and will benefit from a slow-feeder bowl or some supervision at mealtime while she learns that her next meal is always coming. Like any young puppy, she’ll need a patient family ready to continue her training, including helping her learn some polite manners when interacting with other dogs.

Denali has received her first DHPP vaccine, has been dewormed, and is already spayed. She is still too young for her rabies vaccine and will need her next DHPP booster with her new family.

If you’re looking for a smart, silly little girl with a sparkling personality and lots of love to give, Denali might just be your girl! 🐾❤️

Athena ready to find her perfect match! 🐾💜

4 month old Athena, a Shepherd/Poodle mix, is looking for a family that can keep up with everything this energetic girl has to offer.

And when we say energetic, we mean ENERGETIC. 😂 Athena is a busy, playful puppy who is eager to learn and would love a home that can give both her brain and her body plenty to do. Whether it’s training, adventures, playtime, or exploring the world with her favorite humans, Athena is ready to GO!

She’s already crate trained, enjoys a good car ride, and does well with both cats and other dogs. She’s still working on her house training, so her new family should be prepared to continue teaching her all the things a growing puppy needs to know.

Athena absolutely knows she’s adorable and isn’t afraid to request her fair share of attention! Thankfully, she loves her animal friends enough to agree that sharing the spotlight is acceptable… at least sometimes. 😉

Athena’s ideal family will be active, patient, and excited to continue her training while giving her plenty of appropriate outlets for all that puppy energy. In return, you’ll get a sweet, smart, social girl who is ready to make herself a very enthusiastic part of your family! ❤️
