Southwest Iowa Food & Farm Initiative SWIFFI is a regional network for local food producers and consumers to promote the growth, sale and consumption of locally grown food.

The Southwest Iowa Food and Farm Initiative is a network for food producers and consumers working to develop a healthy local food system. SWIFFI works to build a sustainable regional food system that links production, processing, distribution, and consumption; for better health, food security, stronger communities and economic development. SWIFFI is a multi-county coalition of individuals and orga

nizations working together with Golden Hills Resource Conservation and Development. We are a part of the Regional Food System Working Group network at the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. SWIFFI works in Harrison, Shelby, Audubon, Pottawattamie, Cass, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page counties.

Join Golden Hills and Regenerate Nebraska for a farm tour on June 15!

The tour will highlight how the farm uses the 6 regenerative principles to guide present and future planning. The 6 principles include; minimizing tillage, permanent roots in the ground, soil armor, biodiversity, livestock integration, and ecosystem context.

Conservation programming to stop erosion, agroecology, and native species integration will be highlighted. Visitors will also see how solar energy powers the majority of the farm, and see examples of how precision agriculture tools can be used to farm with minimizing inputs.

New to the farmers market circuit this year is the Missouri Valley Gathering Market, which is conveniently located in their city park and will be open the third Saturday of the month, starting in May.

“We want the Missouri Valley Gathering Market to be just that: a place to gather; a place to find good food, great homemade items, and a community that welcomes everyone, supports local makers, and brings neighbors together in joy, creativity, and connection.” –Aneitah Garmann, City Parks Board president and assistant to the farmers market manager.
