🌈 In Memory of Lilly Bug 🌈

This one is personal. ❤️

Lilly Bug wasn’t a Jack’s House client. She belonged to my best friend Theresa and her husband Allen, but after all these years, she was part of my family too.

Every time I traveled back to Richmond for work, I stayed with Theresa and Allen -and Lilly knew the routine. The minute I walked through that door, she went straight for my suitcase and every single bag I brought in. 😂 She knew Aunt Vicki was supposed to arrive with a toy or treats, and trust me…if I forgot, she let me know.

So, of course, I’d make a trip to the store the next day to correct my mistake. 😂 And grocery bags? Those required a full Lilly inspection too. Nothing entered that house without passing quality control.

She was truly one of a kind.
She was their best friend, their constant companion and, quite simply, a good, good girl. ❤️

But what I especially love is that Lilly’s sweetness made its way from Richmond all the way to Oak Island.

Over the years, when Theresa would “clean out” some of Lilly’s toys and things, she would give them to me to bring back and share through the Jack’s House Pet Pantry. Somewhere along the way, another dog got to play with a toy because Lilly shared hers. 🐾

Sweet Lilly Bug, you are going to be so very missed, but you were so incredibly loved—and a little piece of you will always be part of Jack’s House.

Rest peacefully, sweet girl. 🌈🐾❤️

🐾 PET SITTERS TAKING CARE OF PET SITTERS 🐾

I FINALLY got my chance to take care of my friend and workout buddy’s sweet kitties, Tucker & Moki! 🐱🐱❤️

Their primary pet sitter decided she needed to go on a CRUISE. 🚢🙄 I’m not exactly sure who approved that vacation request, but whatever. 😂😂

Her loss was my gain because I got to spend some time with these two absolute love bugs. Lots of kitty cuddles, head bumps and quality time while their mama was off doing people things. ❤️

One of the things I love most about our little animal community here is how the local pet sitters look out for one another. When one of us is booked, away, or apparently off goofing around on a cruise 😂, somebody else steps in.

There’s room for all of us, we support each other, and at the end of the day there’s really only one thing that matters:

The animals are loved and taken care of. 🐾❤️

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Everybody say hello to Tucker, quite possibly the cutest, most adorable little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel you’ll ever meet! 🥹❤️

I’m looking forward to getting to know this sweet little guy, enjoying all the cuddles, and plenty of chill time together while his people are off doing people things. 😂

🐾 A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PET SITTER/DOG WALKER 🐾

Ever wonder what a typical day at Jack’s House looks like? Spoiler alert: there’s a whole lot of walking involved. 😂

⏰ 4:00 AM — Rise and shine!
🐕 4:15 AM — My own boys get their walk, followed by breakfast.
💪 Then it’s off to the gym—because apparently I need to stay strong and fit enough to keep up with your dogs! 😂

🐾 By 7:00 AM, I’m usually at my first Jack’s House visit, and from there, the day takes off. Depending on the schedule, I’m making my rounds every couple of hours.

Some visits are walks and nature breaks.
Some are breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Some are medications, fresh water and treats.
Some are belly rubs, butt scratches and lots of cuddles. ❤️
And some involve walking through the door and thinking… Well, what happened in here?! 💩😂

But it’s not just about the pets.

📦 Packages get brought inside.
📬 Mail gets picked up.
🧹 Messes get cleaned up.
🏡 I keep an eye on your home while you’re away.
📸 And, of course, you get updates and pictures so you know your babies are happy and cared for.

Somewhere in between all of that, I’m still taking care of my own dogs and household, squeezing in some time for my “other” job back in Richmond, running errands, and doing all the regular life stuff we all have to do.

Then tomorrow morning at 4:00 AM…we get up and do it all over again. ❤️🐾

It can be busy. It can be messy. It can definitely be exhausting.

But when I unlock that door and see a wagging tail because somebody has been waiting for me to show up?

That’s a pretty darn good job to have. ❤️

🐾🌈 Remembering Sweet Sox 🌈🐾

Sometimes a pup doesn’t have to be in your care for very long to leave a lasting impression.

Sox was only part of the Jack’s House family for a short time while his family was here temporarily, but this big, handsome Boxer was an absolute sweetheart and such a pleasure to care for. I was so sad to learn that Sox has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I’m grateful our paths crossed and that I had the chance to give this sweet boy some love and of course plenty of attention while he was here.

Sending so much love to his mom and dad as they navigate the loss of such a special member of their family.

Run free, sweet Sox. I’m glad Jack’s House got to be a tiny part of your story. ❤️🐾🌈

Please welcome these two adorable little Frenchies to the Jack’s House family! And yes… they wear pearls. Because obviously, these little ladies have standards. 💅🏼😂

Their mom was busy with the girls this week and headed out for an all-day boat adventure. ☀️🚤 But when you’re out enjoying the water, somebody still needs a nature break and a little attention.

That’s where Jack’s House comes in. 🐾❤️

You enjoy the boat day. I’ll handle the puppies & pearls.

🐾 What Happens During Every Jack’s House Visit?

Every visit is tailored to your pet’s needs, but here’s what you can expect when Jack’s House stops by:

🐶 Plenty of love, attention, playtime, and belly rubs

🚶 Walks or potty breaks based on your pet’s routine and the weather

💦 Fresh water and feeding (including medications if needed)

📸 Photos and updates after every visit so you can relax knowing your pets are happy

🧸 Playtime, enrichment, and companionship—not just a quick in-and-out visit

🏡 A quick home check while you’re away:

• Bring in packages or mail
• Water plants (if requested)
• Rotate lights or blinds
• Check doors are locked
• Keep an eye out for leaks, storm damage, or anything unusual

🌦️ If the unexpected happens, I’ve got your back.

Sometimes that means bringing patio furniture inside before a storm, helping secure your home, or lending an extra hand when life throws a curveball.

One client wanted to enjoy a days at the beach. Since I was already there caring for their dog, I helped carry and set up their beach tent so they could spend the day together without the added stress.

Because caring for your pets often means caring for the people who love them, too.

The little things matter. Whether it’s wiping muddy paws, vacuuming up pet hair, cleaning up an accident, or making sure your pet gets a few extra minutes of cuddles, I believe those little things are what make a big difference.🐾❤️

🐾 It truly takes a village. 🐾

One of the things I love most about our local pet-sitting community is that we look out for one another. This weekend, I had the pleasure of covering for a fellow pet sitter while she enjoyed a whitewater rafting adventure in West Virginia.

After a meet-and-greet Friday evening, I got to spend Saturday with these two sweet pups!❤️

This is exactly why I always encourage pet parents to have a trusted backup plan. Life happens, vacations happen, and sometimes your pet sitter deserves an adventure too! Knowing there’s another experienced sitter ready to step in means your pups continue receiving the love and care they’re used to.

At the end of the day, it’s all about taking care of each other… so we can take care of the pups. 🐶💙
