Blue wants chin rubs. We’re trying to have a serious conversation about space, breeding projects, and running a business.

She has her priorities.

Spend a few minutes with our sailfin girl and you’ll see why we get attached. There’s a lot of time and attention behind these relationships, and sometimes an animal starts feeling a whole lot more like a personal pet than shop stock.

We aren’t pursuing a breeding project with her, and we would consider the right home. That last part matters. We want a setup and keeper that make sense for Blue.

In the meantime, she’s happy to interrupt the conversation for more attention. Watch the chin rubs and stick around for our very professional discussion about getting babies back someday.

We started talking about whether Shadow might need a different home. Then we spent the video explaining why we’re attached to him.

So that went well. lol

This is the difficult part of owning a reptile shop. You spend time with an animal, learn its personality, and somewhere along the way “inventory” stops being the word that fits.

Shadow is one of those animals for us. Watch him with the family and you’ll understand why this conversation keeps going in circles.

We haven’t made a firm decision about letting him go. Any home we considered would need substantial monitor experience and an enclosure that genuinely meets his needs. For now, enjoy a little time with a lizard who has us pretty well wrapped around his claws.

Gadsden, we brought the full setup—and apparently a couple of clowns

Snakes, monitors, iguanas, supplies, and a tortoise who decided he needed to check things out himself.

Meanwhile, we are still trying to convince ourselves we don’t need to keep that rhino iguana. Owning a reptile store requires more self-control than we was prepared for

My son is excited about our new shop pet. I’m excited that she’s currently on the other side of the enclosure.

Meet our Brazilian black tarantula. This girl is staying with us, and you can hear how much my son already likes her.

I’ll be honest: owning a reptile shop has not magically cured my fear of spiders. The Arizona blondes have helped, and we’re hoping spending time watching this girl grow will help my wife and me get more comfortable, too.

I can appreciate how beautiful an animal is and still need a minute to work up the nerve. Apparently my son skipped that part entirely.

Yes, that first one really did come straight at the camera. lol

This is why I have a hard time walking past the tree snakes without stopping. Deep reds, bright yellows, orange heads, crazy patterns… then you get closer and notice something you missed the first 30 times.

I dug through our footage to show off some favorites from the collection, past and present, including a couple of standouts we are keeping to breed in the futre. Keeping a reptile shop stocked is one thing. Trying not to keep everything for yourself is a whole different problem.

Tell me which one you’d stop to look at. Better yet, come see what’s in the shop now. Videos only do them so much justice.

This is how a “let me show you a couple boas” video turns into a whole shop conversation.

Come look through some of our breeding projects with me. We’re talking pairings, genetics, favorite animals, and why some boas are getting another year instead of being rushed into a project.

There are animals in here I could talk about all day. There are also a few with histories or genetics we’re still sorting out, and I’d rather tell you what I don’t know than give you a confident answer that isn’t right.

You’ll get some beautiful boas, the thinking behind our pairings, a few side stories, and my son joining in along the way. Tell me which animal deserves its own closer look.

Apparently I can’t keep the whole store. I’ve been testing that theory pretty hard.

We’re getting ready for Gadsden this Saturday, and some of the animals coming with us are personal projects I’ve been excited about for a long time. That makes these decisions a little harder than just loading up inventory.

We’re talking black-headed pythons, green tree pythons, and the reality of having more animals we love than time and space for every project. One important thing: the black-headed pythons stay together. We will not separate that pair.

Bring the kids, wear your costumes, and come enjoy Halloween with us. Candy, photos, reptiles, and my extremely creative “reptile owner” costume. Really pushing myself this year.
