PSA to all the breeders out there! Particularly in the mpl… small rant ahead
I have seen a lot of posts for pedigrees lately about how people want complete pedigrees with weights, dob, etc. All important info so I understand! I got lucky most of my older rabbits I still have are mostly fully pedigreed with all the info. However, I am coming across more and more incomplete rabbits as I’m going.
Now time for what has prompted this announcement:
Please please please do NOT change a pedigreed name! 😭 I am having such a hard time tracking down rabbits for weights because the name was changed by the person who got them and then put the new name on my rabbits pedigree or just left a prefix off entirely. Don’t change the prefix and don’t change the name- Unless the person you got them from gives you permission to name them and they know what the name is. Also don’t intentionally leave weights off. Why people do this, idk, because it doesn’t hurt to have weights on there even if it’s a pet breed. If you’re giving a pedigree, that person probably wants all the info. I know most people won’t care, especially for mpl because it’s a pet breed, but a lot of people also do! Pet, show, brood, whatever. A pedigree contains so much helpful information and it’s such an unnecessary and frustrating thing to leave stuff off or change information.
I am grateful to the people that have helped me when I reached out for info! It has been a great relief to have some info I was missing. Some of it I still can’t track down and don’t know if I ever will which is unfortunate, but good lesson for what I will be picky about for future rabbits here! 😅
