☀️ Summer Grooming Tips for Your Dog from Kaleigh at Zoey's Spaw! 🐶🌿

Keeping your dog well-groomed during the summer helps them stay comfortable, healthy, and ready for all their warm-weather adventures!

✨ Brush and comb your dog 2–3 times each week.
A brush helps remove loose fur, but don't stop there—follow up with a comb! A comb reaches deeper into the coat and can catch knots and tangles that a brush may miss. If the comb can't glide easily to the skin, there may be hidden matting.

🐾 Pay extra attention to high-friction areas like:
• Behind the front legs (armpits)
• Around the tail
• The legs
• Behind the ears

These areas are especially prone to developing mats.

💧 Keep the coat clean and dry.
Moisture trapped beneath mats creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow and can lead to painful hot spots and skin infections. After swimming or baths, make sure your dog's coat is thoroughly dried—especially if they have a thick or long coat.

A few minutes of grooming each week can make a big difference in keeping your pup healthy, comfortable, and looking their best all summer long! ☀️🐕

🌲🥾 Summer Hiking Tips for Dogs 🐾☀️
Hiking is a great way to explore the outdoors with your best friend—but a little preparation goes a long way!

🐕 Keep your dog on a leash to protect wildlife, other hikers, and your pet from unexpected hazards.

💧 Bring plenty of fresh water and offer frequent drink breaks. Never let your dog rely on streams or puddles, as they may contain harmful bacteria or parasites.

🌡️ Hike during the cooler parts of the day, like early morning or evening, to help prevent heat exhaustion.

🐾 Protect those paws. Hot rocks, pavement, and sand can burn paw pads. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws!

🦟 Stay up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Summer hikes increase your pet's exposure to parasites.

🌿 Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. If you notice these signs, stop hiking immediately, move your dog to a cool area, and seek veterinary care if symptoms don't improve quickly.

🏔️ Most importantly, know your dog's limits. Take breaks, choose trails that match their fitness level, and make the experience fun and safe for everyone.

🩹 Gauze pads and self-adhering bandage wrap
✂️ Blunt-tip scissors and tweezers
🧤 Disposable gloves
💧 Saline solution for flushing eyes or wounds
🌡️ Digital thermometer
🦴 A soft muzzle (even the sweetest pets may bite when they're in pain)
💊 Any prescription medications your pet takes
📋 A copy of your pet's medical records and emergency contact numbers
💦 Fresh water and a collapsible bowl

🐾 Meet Heather & Rachel! 🐾

Heather and Rachel are two of our wonderful Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs) at Animal Kingdom who are currently training to become Veterinary Assistants! Their compassion, dedication, and eagerness to learn make them an important part of our team.

Heather has been with the Animal Kingdom family for a little over a year and enjoys expanding her knowledge and skills while helping care for our patients. Her passion for veterinary medicine began at a young age. Growing up with pets inspired a lifelong desire to help animals, and that passion continues to motivate her every day. At home, Heather has two beloved dogs: Harley, a Beagle-Bulldog mix🐾, and Beaux, a Chihuahua mix🐶🦴 who remind her daily why she chose a career caring for animals and serve as a daily reminder of why she loves caring for animals.

Rachel has been part of the Animal Kingdom team for a year and a half. She shares her home with an Australian Shepherd named Kira🦴 and a cat named King Julian👑, and has always had a deep love for animals. Her journey into veterinary medicine was inspired by a beloved cat who experienced several health challenges and became a frequent visitor to the veterinary clinic. Watching the Veterinary Assistants and Registered Veterinary Technicians care for her cat with such compassion, empathy, and dedication sparked her interest in the field and gave her a glimpse into the important work happening behind the scenes. Today, Rachel is excited to follow that same path and help care for other families' beloved pets.

We're so proud of Heather and Rachel as they continue working toward becoming Veterinary Assistants. Their passion for animal care shines through every day, and we're grateful to have them as part of the Animal Kingdom family. 💙🐾

During this time, our team will be unavailable for appointments, phone calls, and prescription pickups. We will reopen at 2:00 PM and resume normal business hours.

🐾 Meet Kylie & Lydia! 🐾

Kylie and Lydia are two of our dedicated Veterinary Assistants at Animal Kingdom, providing compassionate care and support to our patients, clients, and veterinary team every single day.

Kylie has been a valued member of the Animal Kingdom family for the past two years. She loves veterinary medicine because it gives her the opportunity to help pets recover, support our veterinarians, and offer comfort and reassurance to pet owners during every stage of their pets' care. Being part of a team that makes a positive difference in the lives of animals and their families is what she enjoys most.

Outside of the clinic, Kylie loves spending time with her own furry family—her cat, Betty, and her two dogs, Jasper and Molly.

Lydia has been with Animal Kingdom for three years and has always had a passion for helping animals. She enjoys being able to make a difference in the lives of the pets she cares for each day. At home, Lydia shares her life with her two cats, Buddy and Sonny.

We're incredibly grateful to have Kylie and Lydia on the Animal Kingdom team. Their compassion, dedication, and commitment to exceptional patient care help make our clinic a special place for both pets and the people who love them. 💙
