Some animals arrive at our door carrying stories too heavy for words. Velvet and Peaches were two of them.
Velvet, a sleek black cat rescued from a severe hoarding situation, spent her first days at the shelter trembling in the back of her cage. Her world had always been overcrowded, unpredictable, and loud. Here, she finally had space, but she had no idea how to trust it. It took almost a year of gentle voices and quiet companionship before she truly began to bloom. During that time, she also struggled with chronic skin issues that baffled us. Medication after medication didn’t work, until finally, after months of testing and care, we found the right treatment. Bit by bit, she healed. Bit by bit, she opened her heart.
Peaches arrived with a different story, but the same fear in her eyes. She came to us as a semi-feral stray, unsure of people and wary of hands reaching toward her. But our incredible team of cat socializers never gave up. Day after day, they sat with her, sometimes talking, sometimes saying nothing at all, letting her dictate the pace. It took a year and a half, but slowly Peaches learned that humans could be safe, gentle, and even comforting.
Then something extraordinary happened, a loving couple walked into the shelter and didn’t overlook the shy ones. Instead, they saw the cats who needed them most. Velvet and Peaches, two cats who once shrank away from humans, surprisingly allowed the couple to pet them.
A match was made.
Today, both girls are finally in a peaceful, quiet home where they are understood. A home that celebrates their progress, respects their boundaries, and gives them lots of love, comfort and care.
This is what your support makes possible.
Your donations give fearful cats time.
You give them medical care.
You give them patient hands and second chances.
You give them futures.
Please consider making an early gift for Giving Tuesday so we can continue our mission!
