Meet Ficus šŸ–¤šŸ¤

This handsome 2-year-old tuxedo boy has been friendly from the very first day he arrived at The Animal Haven. Found as a stray in New Haven, Ficus quickly showed us just how special he is, not just with people, but with the other cats too.

Ficus has become the ā€œbig brotherā€ our younger cats didn’t know they needed. He’s helped shy and nervous cats in the room grow more comfortable with people, showing them that attention and affection aren’t so scary after all. You will regularly find them close by, following each other, cuddling and taking long naps side by side. 🐾

Sweet, social, and always happy to say hello, Ficus is the kind of cat who makes everyone around him feel a little safer and more at home. It’s time he found his forever home šŸ¾šŸ–¤.

Come meet Ficus at our open house on Sunday, June 7 from 1-3 pm, or apply to adopt him here: https://loom.ly/ficQ4U4

šŸŽ‰ May Adoption Recap šŸŽ‰

What a month it has been at The Animal Haven! Many of our cats and dogs found their forever homes and started exciting new chapters. Playful pups and kittens, sweet seniors, shy cats who just needed a chance, and some of our longtime residents finally found the homes they’ve been waiting for.

To everyone who adopted, fostered, shared our posts, or cheered our animals on from afar — thank you. Every like, comment, and share helps more people see our animals and increases their chances of finding a family. We are so grateful for everyone who helps spread the word and celebrate these animals with us each day. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

✨ Congratulations to all of our May adopters!

Lately, it feels like we’ve been sharing more and more stories of animals who started life without the safety they deserved.

This is Ahsoka.

For the first six years of her life, Ahsoka lived in the home of a well-meaning but mentally ill hoarder. Her world was chaos and clutter. The conditions were heartbreaking—an apartment so neglected that responders believed it hadn’t been properly cleaned in decades.

The call that brought Ahsoka to our attention was devastating: her owner was found deceased in the clutter. It’s likely Ahsoka and her two small dog companions were there with him for days.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Ahsoka’s back legs are malformed and don’t function—whether from an old injury that healed incorrectly or a congenital defect. She gets through life on her two front legs. It can be hard to see… but Ahsoka doesn’t seem to know she’s ā€œdifferent.ā€ She just keeps going.

Ahsoka came to us with two small dog companions, so we know she has the potential to live peacefully with dogs. From what we’ve seen, she isn’t a fan of cats, and would do best in a home without them. We also think she may do well with carpeted stairs, but hardwood may be tricky.

More than anything, Ahsoka deserves what she’s never truly had: a calm home, gentle routines, and people who will love her exactly as she is. She deserves care—and she may not even know what that feels like yet.

Meet Dots!

Dots is one of our newer kitty residents, and she’s already charmed every staff member—and just about all of our volunteers. This outgoing girl clearly missed having her person. When her owner moved into an assisted living facility, Dots was left behind in the home. While kind people stopped in to feed her and change her litter, she was very lonely for several months.

Now Dots is settling into her almost best life in one of our Community Cat Rooms! She’s doing well with the other cats and absolutely loves anyone who comes in to say hello (and give her the attention she’s been waiting for).

We truly believe Dots will make an amazing companion. She’s ready to be someone’s beloved best friend—and she’ll return that love tenfold.

We have a special someone for you to meet, and we think you'll be cheering her on just as hard as we are once you meet her.

Ewok was brought to us on Saturday morning by a trapper in West Haven doing her best to spay and neuter an entire colony (shout out to all the very hard working TNR people out there!). Her brother had already passed away, and when she got to us she wasn't looking all that well. Needless to say, we started making some moves right away.

Right now here is what we are fighting with Ewok:
*Malnutrition
*Dehydration
*Conjunctivitis
*Upper Respiratory Infection
*Worms

So far, she is rallying! We are watching her little face fill out by the day. She's so tiny, but she is showing that she is all play and snuggles, and we think she is so happy to be warm and cared for. We can't wait to fatten her up, and if she passes all of her tests, we'll get to introduce her to some other kittens her age.

The sky is the limit for our little Ewok and we hope you will send her all the good vibes as she grows (into her ears)!
