As show season is taking off, we are looking to add to the team!

Position 1: Sunday Mornings

Start time 7:30am (some flexibility for earlier), duties include feeding, turning out, water buckets, stall cleaning, filling hay nets. Most days there are only a handful of stalls to do as long as the weather is good and the majority of the horses are out. Must be comfortable handling all kinds of horses, administering oral meds, etc.

This can expand into a full day position for the right candidate, adding paddock picking, general tidying, setting feed, and afternoon turnin. Saturday morning feeding/turnout can be added as well if desired.

Position 2: Saturday Afternoons

Start time 3pm, approximately 4 hours. Duties include afternoon turnin, throwing hay to paddocks, PM feed, paddock picking, and general tidying.

These positions can be for two separate people or one person interested in doing both days. Prior hands-on experience working with horses is required; this is not an entry-level position. Must be 18+, have reliable transportation, be able to work independently, follow directions well, and show up consistently. Pay is very good for candidates who check all the boxes.

If interested, email Jamie at [email protected] or text at (203)710-9604. Please only reach out if you meet the requirements above. Located in North Haven, CT.

We had such a fabulous day at the Connecticut Dressage & Combined Training Association (CDCTA) show on Sunday!

Megan and Scarlet placed 2nd in both Intro B and Intro C and Meg absolutely rocked it doing her first canter test; super proud of this new partnership!

Chantel and Lacey placed 2nd in Training 2 before going on to finish on their dressage score in the Elementary combined test to finish 2nd there as well with a lovely jump round

Avocet and Nirvana had their first outing since the fall, taking home 1st and TIP Champion in the Poles CT and 4th place and TIP Reserve Champion in the Pre-Elementary CT with two clear jump rounds; great riding Avocet!

Last but not least, Lindsay and Blaze put in a lovely test and a clear showjumping round to end the day in 4th place in the Advanced Elementary combined test

Great riding everyone!

What a great kickoff to the season today at Sperry View for the CDA schooling show!

Megan and Scarlet did their first ever show as a pair, scoring 70% and 69% respectively in Intro A and Intro B and coming home with two second place ribbons!

Slater competed in her first ever dressage show with Pal, scoring 67% and winning her Intro C division and placing 5th in Training 1 with a 63%. So grateful to have such an incredible horse like Pal in our lesson program that can show so many riders the ropes of competing!

Lastly, I had the privilege of riding Scarlet in Training 2 where she scored a 67% and won the class. Thank you to Meg for letting me ride your super cool pony!

What a good way to start off 2026!

Gridwork is not just for the showjumping arena šŸ˜‰ Some of our riders today demonstrating our grid incorporating our bank. This is a great tool to help riders develop their skill in riding by feel and staying out of the horse’s way and it helps the horses think about their footwork which helps them build what we like to call their ā€œfifth legā€: the ability to think for themselves and help us out of tricky situations, a very helpful tool to have in eventing horses!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who came and helped out with our Spring Cleanup Day! We got more done than I ever could’ve imagined and it was so nice to spend the day with everyone; what a nice reminder of the great community we have at JCE ā¤ļø

Side note, can you think of anything more horse girl coded than mimosa ingredients being chilled in a water bucket šŸ˜‚

Bring some work gloves and feel free to bring any hedge cutters, garden tools, etc. Breakfast and lunch provided (and I heard there might even be mimosas šŸ‘€). Why will you almost always find a grid or gymnastic exercise in our arena whenever we have a jump course set? Because they are incredibly useful for setting up and organizing the canter that we want to jump a course from!

Gymnastic exercises are a great way to start a course because it sets up the energy and stride length you want to maintain around the rest of the jumps.

They’re also a great way to end a course, to make sure you’re balanced and reorganized and ending the round on a confident, rhythmic note.

For horses who tend to rush or get flat and strung out as the course goes on, I love to drop to trot and pop through the grid mid-course to get their brains thinking and their hind legs back under them.

This particular grid is a trot in, 9 ft bounce to a distance somewhere between 3 and 4 strides which leaves room for variation depending on what the horse needs: horses who want to get flat and forward can do a short, bouncy four and horses who need a bit of encouragement to get out in front of the leg can do a slightly longer three to get the canter where we want it.

Honestly any gymnastic exercise works great for this, even if it’s just a small vertical with a 9ft placing rail on either side!
