Friends of the Norfolk Animal Care Center

Friends of the Norfolk Animal Care Center Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center is a charitable non-profit founded to support the work of Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead

In 2005, a small group of caring citizens banded together with the goal of providing additional medical care for animals in Norfolk’s City Shelter. Thus the Medical Fund for animals was born, spurred by a $750 donation. This small group lit a spark, en

couraging more citizens to get involved and to identify additional ways they could help the city’s homeless pets. Financial support expanded, participation grew, and in 2008 the organization’s name was changed to Friends of the Norfolk Animal Care Center. This evolution signaled broader growth as sponsored programs increased to include not only medical support, but also funding of adoption programs, sponsoring spay/neuter programs, promoting adoption and rescue, and much more. From the initial six-member Board, Friends has grown to become a 14-member Board with a network of hundreds of volunteers and growing financial resources. The original $750 donation has advanced into an operating budget of nearly $100,000, with all proceeds benefitting the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center and community. But never doubt that the seeds of the early, small start continue to bloom in today’s organization. Friends continues to be a 100% volunteer effort determined to support the staff of Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center and maximize their resources in an effort to provide loving care, safe shelter and forever homes for animals. As a charitable nonprofit founded to support and assist the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center, your support is key in helping us to achieve our goals. Through financial donations, we are able to: Provide medical care to dogs and cats to prepare them for adoption, Fund training programs for shelter staff, Acquire medical equipment and medications, Coordinate adoption events and fundraisers that connect the community, Sponsor spay/neuter clinics. Together, the staff of Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center and the volunteers of Friends strive together to bring a happy outcome for all of Norfolk's shelter animals.

Happy National Best Friends Day! 💕🐾

Some friendships are simply meant to last a lifetime, and Mama Kitty and Hot Mess are proof. These bonded Golden Girls arrived at in April when their family moved to housing that could not accommodate pets. Through all the changes, they've had one constant: each other.

Hot Mess is a friendly, independent girl who can be a little nervous in new situations, while Mama Kitty is playful, active, and full of affection. Together, they share a love of head scratches, cozy companionship, and spending time with the people they trust. They get along well with children, have lived with dogs, and are ready to bring double the love to their next family. ❤️

As two Golden Girls, their adoptions are fully sponsored while funds last thanks to a Golden Paws Match from and Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center.

Could their next best friend be you?

Adoption Hours are 1:30–6:00 p.m. daily (closed Wednesdays)

Did you know that spaying and neutering your pet has these long-term health benefits?

-Reduces the risk of cancers
-Reduces unwanted behaviors
-Increases life span
-Reduces roaming
-Decreases pet overpopulation

In May, Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center funded our monthly Neuter and Spay Norfolk clinic, and 27 animals received free spays and/or neuters! Additionally, 20 received rabies (all the others were UTD) and all 25 received microchips.

Our free Neuter and Spay Norfolk clinic takes place every second Wednesday of the month. FNACC also covers the cost of a rabies vaccine and microchip at no charge for Norfolk residents.
Don’t miss this opportunity to keep your pet healthy and happy.
To schedule an appointment:
Call 757-622-7382 (Option 3)
or visit www.peta.org/spayneuter
Be sure to mention you want to book on a Friends of NACC day to receive these free services.
