Hi Hooligans Family,
Not the Friday post we want to make but one we have been putting off. We unfortunately lost two big hearts out here recently and want to update you all.

Tuesday afternoon during afternoon checks Rachael noticed that our sweet girl Cinnamini was lethargic and not doing well in the heat. We immediately syringe fed her some water, gave her nutri-drench and brought her to our medical room to hang in the air conditioning. We noticed that she may have been a bit anemic from the mites that she was currently fighting off, an issue we are constantly fighting here at the sanctuary with all our birds. She was lethargic most of the evening but showed a little perkiness before bedtime. By morning she had passed huddled up in her little bed of shavings in her crate. For those of you that have volunteered here or came through an open house you know just how much this sweet girl was loved. We will miss her marching around chest out and her tini tiny eggs. Rest In Power Cinnamini.

We are excited to announce that 2nd Street Hooligans Rescue is partnering with , a local Pilates instructor in Norco, to host a community Mat Pilates class at the sanctuary! Join us for class on Saturday, May 10th @ 9am. Make sure you bring a mat, water, and your good energy! We are excited to offer this opportunity to the community and hope you join us in moving your body and getting to know your fellow community members. Donations are encouraged 🤍

We’ve been discussing ways we can build community and make the sanctuary a place of love and care for everyone, not just the animals we care for. If you have ideas for community-based events or partnerships please reach out!

We are deeply saddened to share that Binky crossed over the rainbow bridge this afternoon while at the vet.

Binky came to us in December 2019 after spending the first two years of his life in an animal testing facility. He was not a friendly rabbit and preferred to live in his own space. He loved treat time and while he didn’t have the best vision, he could easily find treats using his cute little sniffer. Over the last couple of months, we noticed he was significantly slowing down, which makes sense as he was a “senior” rabbit.

Upon his initial exam, the vet noticed some overgrowth of his rear teeth and some puss in his mouth, indicating some type of infection happening. He was dehydrated but didn’t show signs of stasis, which we took steps to try and avoid. Today’s treatment plan was to do everything possible for Binky and provide the highest level of care. He immediately started receiving IV fluids and meds upon intake. We planned for a full blood and urine panel, CT scan with contrast, and potential abscess removal. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after they began his treatment. They attempted CPR but were unable to resuscitate him. We were devasted to learn of his passing, but grateful to the medical team for doing everything they could to try and help him.

We are grateful we were able to provide love, safety and freedom to Binky in his final years 🌈 🐰 🩷
