So proud of this little mare. 🌻

She went from being scared and fighting almost any kind of pressure to staying calm, soft, and beginning to think through situations instead of reacting to them. Watching her nervous system slowly relax has been so rewarding.

Her training has been a mix of traditional pressure/release, confidence building, and some R+ techniques — all rooted in my Christ Centered Horsemanship approach of patience, trust, and working with the horse in front of us instead of against them.

She still has a journey ahead of her, but she is making such beautiful progress already +trainining

Regarding what happened at the NBHA show… I truly cannot fathom why someone would do something so cruel. There is so much evil in this world, and my heart absolutely breaks over this situation.

Lord, please be with the horses and owners involved in the incident at the Vegas barrel racing event. Father, bring comfort and peace to those whose horses were harmed, and may each horse heal quickly and fully. Surround everyone affected with strength, protection, and Your presence during this heartbreaking time.

Meet Sunflower. 🌻

She has been with us for almost a month now. I waited a bit to introduce her because I wanted time to really get to know her first and she’s a special case.

This beautiful mare came to us extremely defensive to back and side pressure due to how she was previously started. Underneath it though, you can tell she is incredibly sweet, just scared and unsure.

This first month has been focused less on “doing” and more on helping calm her nervous system, build trust, and learn that pressure does not have to mean fear or conflict. We are slowly working toward being ridden again, but only when she is mentally and emotionally ready for that step.

The first few photos are from her assessment session and about a week into training. The last few pictures are from the her most recent sessions. Today I ALMOST rode her ba****ck lol.

She now:
• wears a ba****ck pad calmly
• stands quietly next to the mounting block
• accepts back pressure much more softly
• allows me to “pretend mount”
• is beginning to relax and think through situations instead of reacting

I’ve been using a mix of pressure/release, confidence building, nervous system regulation, and some R+ style training with her. This is such a good example of my Christ Centered Horsemanship philosophy: slowing down, listening to the horse in front of us, and building trust and understanding before expecting performance.

She has already made so much progress in a short time, and I truly believe there is a wonderful horse in there.

Sometimes slowing down and building the foundation is what creates the most lasting results.

Stay tuned to watch her journey. 🌻
