We stopped and visited Nowhere But Up Performance Horses in Johnstown, Colorado this morning. We have our three yr old stallion Wallen who is by CT Show Me Your Guns and out of Genuine Red Peg, in training with Cody Crow and hadn’t seen him since the IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity last fall. He looks amazing and has matured so much. We also got to see the three of the four young horses owned by Carter Laing who purchased them from us as foals. Carter graciously gave us a barn tour while Cody was at a horse show this morning. The palomino is Woodford who is by HQ Helluva Cat and out of GS Kittys Smart Cat x Smart Chic O’Lena. We have full siblings to three of her four horses including one to Woodford so it is so fun to get to see them grown up in in training. We really appreciate all of the work it takes to get these young athletes to the show pen and Cody and Carter have them all looking fantastic.

Congratulations to Kris Klingaman and Dave Albrecht! Their gelding HQ Never Lose Hope and Zach Hedberg placed 2nd in the N SHO Ranch Riding Futurity in River Falls, Wisconsin! HQ Never Lose Hope is by CD Dyna Cee and out of Sevens Brazos Lily x Two Eyed Brazos. We have been waiting for this pair to get in front of a judge and they sure didn’t disappoint!!

The Hockensons had a vision of raising a winner when they crossed NCHA Hall-of-Famer Metallic Cat on their Bronze Champion AQHA Sr Heading mare, Bound To White Chex. She had more than 328.5 points in all three roping events, earned $20,189 and was an AQHA Performance Champion.

The result, 𝗛𝗤 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘃𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝘁, “was absolutely everything we hoped for,” Reid Hockenson said.

The 2016 palomino roan made the Open Finals of the 2019 Snaffle Bit Futurity with Luke Jones before they started heeling and roping calves on him. An injury shortened his career just after he added an All-Around Ranch Horse Versatility Championship to his resume.

The Hockensons recently bred HQ Helluva Cat, a carrier of both the cream and roan genes, to some “really big-time rope horse mares,” while the oldest foals, just 2, are already being ridden and their trainers are impressed with their talent, trainability and grit.

It’s been nearly three years since we lost Lights at just 10 years old. We believed in him as a young sire and he has proven to pass on one his trainability and willingness to his offspring. He has sired just 64 registered AQHA foals but has produced just short of $200,000 of earners including Futurity Champions and AQHA World Champions. Those that got in early are already riding the first foals out of his daughters and they too carry the Lights work ethic and trainability. We have about 40 doses of frozen semen left for our old friend that we will continue to offer for the next few breeding seasons. Gone but certainly not forgotten on our farm, CD Dyna Cee…

Gone but not forgotten. CD Dyna Cee’s untimely death as a young sire was a blow to the Hockensons in 2022, but his dynasty continues to flourish. He sired the defending Snaffle Bit Limited Open Champion HQ Time To Shine, as well as a top-four finisher in Sr Heading at the latest AQHA World Show–HQ Blondes Love Me.

The second-highest leading stallion in the IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity, "Lights” sired the 2019 IQHA Ranch Horse Futurity High-Point Yearling, the High-Point 2-Year-Old and the 2024 champion Halter Yearling. That’s in addition to siring HQ Blondes Love Me, the working cow horse that was also the 2023 AQHA World Champion in L2 Jr Heading under Cort Jones and 4th in the Sr Heeling with John Philipp. Lights also sired HQ BlondesROverrated, the AQHA Reserve World Champion in Jr Tie-Down Roping.

HQ Wilma Gotta Kitty better known as Kitty was the first offspring we raised to win a NRCHA Major event. She won more than $26,500 mostly in the L1 Limited Open all with Sarah Murphey as the pilot! The duo won the L1 Limited Open Championship at the NRCHA Stallion Stakes and Eastern Derby’s and had an extremely special bond between horse and rider.

Kitty had her third foal by AQHA World Champion CT Show Me Your Guns May 31st (last picture). Her two yr old is in training with Cody Crowe in Colorado and her palomino roan yearling gelding is available for sale! These babies are the cross of two of our most successful show horse families and we cannot wait for these to get old enough to hit the show pen!!
