We've had to make a change to our current breeding plans.
Supra and Neptune will no longer be a possible cross for us. See, when I bought Supra, I was sold a puppy that should've been clear by parentage, meaning her parents were tested clear of the inheritable disease traits we are currently able to test for. I sent out a panel through AKC DNA and Health to have the testing present to get her CHIC status. Upon receiving the results, we found she is a carrier for DM, which Neptune is as well. Therefore this cross is not a compatible match.
While we are devastated, we are hopeful with the new plans with a new stud we are picking up from Missouri for our friends. He is a GCH sired male with a pedigree that doesn't overlap any of my other dogs. So we are very excited for the genetic diversity he will add to the program here. We do plan to test all of the puppies for DM, and if we have a clear puppy, we may hold back someone for the program. I will formally introduce the new sire in the coming weeks with his health testing, pedigree and more photos, for now we have a sneak peak.
This goes to show that running panels on clear by parentage dogs is absolutely worth it, sometimes things aren't always as they seem and sometimes testing is incorrect.
