Talking about how different daycare‘s are run you can see many pictures of many facilities that have collars on the dogs as they are playing.
Because of my experience living with/married to a veterinarian for 17 years, I know the horrific accidents that can happen when a dog will playfully grab at another dog‘s neck that is wearing a collar and get its jaw caught in the collar. I hope you will never experience it but suffice it to say my personal dogs never wear collars unless they are on a leash and I am holding the other end and no daycare dog in my Care would ever have a collar on either in a crate or out for play unless it is a situation like what I am talking about in this video.
Remembering that I have a very strong background in obedience training, with the owner’s permission I will work with some dogs with electronic collars so that we can curb behaviors that happen “on the fly” and would otherwise not allow them to be in a group play experience. Therefore, if you see a collar on a dog in my photos or videos, you will know that the dog is being worked with to modify unwanted behavior. You should also know that I work very hard at pairing those dogs with playmates that do not have grabby behavior so they are not at risk of becoming stuck in a training collar.

Its official.
I may have dropped my iPhone one too many times.
Or…. I may have taken pictures in one too many rain storms.
Regardless, today’s pictures weren’t any better than yesterday‘s in terms of blurriness unfortunately.
Welcome back from vacation Millie K our deaf girl…awesome to have her here today!! 🥰
And a lot of you have been asking after Ashley these last few days… She is pursuing her art and would love you to visit and share her FB page to get the word out! Ashley DuPont, Portrait Artist.
Have a great evening everyone…see you tomorrow 🙃

I didn’t get a chance to post a daycare video today because taking the videos was very difficult with a wet iPhone! Not knocking the rain you understand we totally needed it, but it did present its challenges with the phone!! The dogs had a blast, even the ones who tend not to like jumping in the water frolicked in the rain with no issue at all! Now onward and upward to cleaning the pools…WITH THE FLOOD LIGHTS😱😩

I am still trying to find the right words for the post I want to make as an explanation of what happened to Al. I am not there yet…but when my heart allows me, I will.

Until then I have been sifting through pictures and videos and subsequently came across this one that Ashley took over eight years ago of Mira.

POV:
Mira was not a “natural Mom”

She had to be surgically inseminated as NO ONE dog or human would be touching her “back there” so doing things naturally or even “regular”insemination was not an option.

She required a C-section for delivery…not because she needed assistance with a tough situation…nope… it was because she had no intention of participating in the delivery process at all and was very overdue with no sign of going into labor.

And right about the time the “Mom hormones” were kicking in post C-section, then of course she developed mastitis so her time with the puppies had to be scheduled/controlled and closely monitored reducing that all important bonding time with the babies.

We all knew it was time to feed the puppies when the alarm on my phone went off.

So Ashley took this video of the alarm sounding but the phone being missing from the spot it was kept…..

This remains one of my all-time favorite videos of very sweet and very smart Mira❤️

And P**F. Another daycare week comes to an end. I got asked several times at pick up if the storms were close…my answer was yes/no. We got rained on a bit, but not a lot, we could hear the thunder, but nothing was so close we needed to be safe inside… and seriously thankful we had no hail!!😱
Where the dogs hang out inside the building, it would be labeled as a “daylight basement“. Translation would be we had to blast down into the ledge when we built the building in 2002. So 1/2 is literally right up to the casement windows in ledge which provides really nice sound insulation. Add to that the fact that I believe in maximum air circulation, (you really should not have people or pets in a building that does not have adequate in/out flow of air exchange.) so I run exhaust fans, floor fans, wall fans and large three stage air scrubbers so all of that creates white noise on top of the insulation the ledge provides. So far so good over the years with T-storms and fireworks🙌
Enjoy the weekend everyone! See you Monday🙏

Sorry to be so late at this! Had a few things take precedence over the pictures this evening but “we got ‘er done”….just a ton of fun today which equals a ton of pictures to sift through as you know!

Here’s another slice of a typical day. If you look back through my posts, you will see many pictures of Dogs lined up in stationary positions. Whether we’re up on the platform or whether we’re on the tires or whether we are on the steps or the ground it doesn’t matter. I work with Dogs every day on on general manners and diffusing an overstimulated moment with some control work. I come from a strong obedience background, not only showing in obedience competitions starting as a junior handler in 1968 (😱) but I taught group obedience for a bazillion years in Maine and California and back again. So while I totally embrace the utter fun of just watching dogs play and be crazy, when they start to get too crazy we’re going to do a little bit of brain work. Some daycare’s charge for obedience training, I do not. I retired from actual obedience training when Covid hit, so I am not the person to hire to work your dog on obedience commands anymore. But obedience for all of the dogs is woven into the fabric of every daycare day here. Today’s video is of a three dog group that has a tendency to get a little too jacked up. So in the middle of play let’s stop. Let’s get these posed pictures for the post and let’s get our brains on track again. Ergo any one of the pictures you see of dogs lined up on any given day is me working on “pay attention” “don’t move for just a minute…calm it down”

Another beautiful day, thank God. I think the dogs all know fall is around the corner… they seem extra intent on soaking up the sun as apposed to these same temperatures in the spring would have them running for shade. Full on dark at 5am…I am soaking it up too 🌞

For those of you who think all we do is crashing into the water and leaping after balls, I’m sharing a long, laid-back video of one of the groups here today. Remembering the goal is to find like-minded dogs to hang out with each other. This is my senior crew 🥰 not to say that they might not get a wild hair and run around sometimes, but leaping after balls is not really their idea of a good time! Bowdie and Daisie (who is not a senior), Kate, Baily and of course Miss Natty.
