Spotlight on the Cobue! πŸ”¦πŸŸ If you want serious color contrast in your Mbuna tank, the *Cynotilapia afra* "Cobue" is hard to beat.
That brilliant yellow/orange dorsal blaze against a dark-barred, light blue body? Absolute showstopper. πŸ”₯
But what makes them truly unique is how they eat. Unlike typical rock-scraping Mbunas, these guys have unicuspid "dog-like" teeth designed for picking plankton right out of the open water column!
**πŸ’‘ Feeding Tip:** Even though they hunt micro-prey in the wild, their digestive systems are still incredibly sensitive. Feeding a high-quality, easily digestible omnivorous or herbivorous blend (heavy on the spirulina and kelp) is the absolute secret to keeping those colors popping and preventing Malawi Bloat. Avoid the heavy mammalian proteins! 🌿🦐
Are you keeping any *Cynotilapia* species in your fish room right now? Drop a comment and let me know! πŸ‘‡

🐟 Species Spotlight: Protomelas sp. spilonotus "Tanzania" πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ώ
Common Name: Insignis Hap
Origin: Lake Malawi (Eastern coast near Liuli and Puulu Island)
Max Size: Males can reach an impressive 10–12 inches
Parameters: pH 7.8–8.4 | Temp 76–82Β°F

🌊 Coloration & Behavior
Looking for a massive, show-stopping centerpiece for a large Hap/Peacock setup? The "Tanzania" Insignis is a prime candidate. Mature males develop a jaw-dropping royal blue upper body and face, contrasted sharply by a blazing golden-yellow belly and a crisp, translucent white dorsal edge. Despite their impressive size, they are surprisingly peaceful for a Haplochromine, though males will fiercely defend a breeding site near large boulders.

πŸ₯© Diet & Care
In the wild, these open-water cruisers are primarily carnivorous, actively hunting insects and small invertebrates in the water column. In the aquarium, they require a robust, high-protein diet to reach their full size and maximum color potential.

πŸͺ¨ Tank Requirements
Because of their active open-water swimming habits and 12-inch adult size, a 75-gallon tank (or larger) is essential. Provide plenty of open space in the upper and middle water column, along with some substantial rockwork near the substrate to offer territories.

What is your favorite large Haplochromine to keep? Let us know in the comments! πŸ‘‡P
