Crested Gecko Care Sheet
FEEDING
We feed Pangea Growth and Breeding with a mix of a variety of different flavors from Pangea and Repashy. We feed daily to make sure all food is fresh. We are currently live feeding baby crickets once a week. Feeder insects shouldn’t be any bigger than the gap between your gecko’s eyes, and should be gut loaded and calcium dusted.
HYDRATION
We provide a contact lens case as our hatchlings water dish. Once they get around 5 grams, we provide a shallow water dish. In addition to their water dish, we also give their enclosures a good mist twice a day to help with hydration. When misting, you’ll want to spray enough water to get everything wet, but avoid flooding their enclosure.
HOUSING
Crested geckos are an arboreal species. This means they prefer taller enclosures instead of short and wide enclosures. They are climbers and should have sturdy objects to allow them to do so. They also like a lot of hiding spaces. You can provide hides of fake or real plants for them to hide in and/or behind. The minimum size for an adult would be an 18x18x24 sized enclosure. Babies do better in smaller enclosures to allow them to more easily find food and to cause less stress. 6-quart sized totes are a good starter for a hatchling. You will eventually need to upgrade as they get older and bigger.
HUMIDITY
Your humidity should stay at a constant 60-70%. Mist your tank 1-2 times per day. Ideally, once in the morning and once at night. When misting, be cautious not to over mist. You want the enclosure to be wet, but without any pooling at the bottom. A short drying period in the middle of the day will not harm your gecko, but be sure not to allow extended periods of low humidity as it can cause shedding and health issues.
LIGHTING/UVB
Although lighting is optional, you still want to make sure there is a sufficient amount of light during the day time, and darkness at night time to ensure a stable day/night cycle. UVB is also optional, but can be beneficial. If you decide not to use UVB, make sure your crested gecko has a consistent diet and that you’re dusting their feeder insects with calcium that has vitamin D3.
SUBSTRATE
There are several substrate options available for your crested gecko. The most basic substrate would be either paper towels or non-adhesive shelf liner. Both of these will easily allow you to see that your gecko is passing solid waste. You can also use a bio-active substrate mix.
