πŸŽ‰ Celebrating Delaware's Future Veterinarians!

The Delaware Veterinary Medical Association (DVMA) was thrilled to attend a special reception honoring University of Delaware seniors who have been accepted into veterinary school this fall! 🐾

Several members of the DVMA Executive Board had the distinct pleasure of joining these outstanding students to celebrate this incredible milestone in their journeys toward becoming veterinarians. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the next generation of veterinary professionals β€” the future colleagues, innovators, and advocates for animal health in our state and beyond.

To each and every one of you heading off to vet school this fall: we see you, we celebrate you, and we are SO proud of you. The hard work, dedication, and passion that brought you to this moment is just the beginning of an extraordinary career ahead.

The DVMA is committed to supporting veterinary students and new graduates every step of the way. We look forward to welcoming you into the profession and watching you thrive!

Yesterday, the Delaware Veterinary Medical Association's Government Relations Committee had the privilege of hosting legislators and legislative staff for a special luncheon at Legislative Hall.

These gatherings are more than just a meal β€” they are an invaluable opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the individuals who shape policy in our state. Conversations like these help ensure that the voices of Delaware's veterinary community are heard where it matters most.

We are grateful to all who joined us and look forward to continuing to strengthen these important connections. Together, we can advocate effectively for the animals and pet owners we serve.

One of the most memorable moments of our Spring Conference was our Animal Hero Award presentation, where we honored K9 Mako for his dedicated service to the Delaware State Police for 9-1/2 years. He was a patrol and narcotics detection dog, answering every call without hesitation. His remarkable career of over 250 deployments, 41 felony apprehensions, and the recovery of 150 pounds of narcotics and $530,000 in drug proceeds stands as a testament to his undiminished drive and devotion to duty, and the unbreakable bond he shared with those he served beside.
Though Mako passed away in January 2026, his legacy lives on. Cpl/2 Benjamin E. Nefosky accepted the award on Mako's behalf β€” and introduced us to his new partner in training, K9 Crash.

Such a wonderful evening spent with the Delaware State University Pre-Vet Club! πŸΎπŸ’™

Members of the DVMA DEI Committee, Dr. Jessica Jurado-Street and Amber Rainer, shared their time and expertise leading a wet lab on performing a veterinary physical exam. Amber walked students through everything from reducing patient anxiety to auscultation and recognizing signs of pain β€” then students got to practice hands-on with live patients. Delaney, one of the students, also assisted with demonstrating oral exam techniques with such care.

It's always a joy to pour into the next generation. These students are going to do great things. 🌟
