At Brooklyn Cat Cafe, we are proud to be one of the earliest cat cafes in the US, and the first to launch in New York City’s most populous borough. We’re the only cafe in the city run by a non-profit animal rescue organization. Our mission is to save our city’s cats, and we advance it by offering a hip and inviting destination where cat lovers of all ages can interact with adoptable animals – and one another – while learning about pet rescue and care together too.

Shark Week may have ended yesterday, but it’s just beginning at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe…🦈

Meet Great White Shark, Epaulette Shark, Cookiecutter Shark, and Threaher Shark!

They’re still a little nervous, but with some tuna flavored bribery (aka churu) they’ll be our best friends in no time.

Have you ever wanted to try socializing a hissy kitten? Now is your chance! We have lots of kittens in need of socialization at the cafe. All you need is patience, Churu, and a small space like a bathroom.🐱

DM us for details!

Cat rescue is an often thankless job. It can be soul-crushing, exhausting, and financially challenging for rescues and rescuers.❤️

has been part of our rescue community for more than 10 years, tirelessly working individually and with others to help cats and people in every community - often those with the fewest resources or other sources of assistance. A few nights ago Sassee was trapping some cats late at night, when her car was totaled by a hit and run driver.

This catastrophe hasn’t stopped her commitment to continue helping the cats and people that depend on her to rescue, feed, care for or provide cat food. We all have many adopters whose cats were originally rescued by Sassee. As a rescue community we are determined to come together and help Sassee get at least $5,000 in donations so that she can get a short term car rental and get her car back on the road and continue doing this essential work.

We are asking for your help. Please donate to Sassee directly and/or join us Thursday, July 31, at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe in appreciation for all of the hard work that rescuers do and support our friend and fellow rescuer Sassee.

Come from 6:30-8:30pm, tickets are $35 at the door (walk-ins are welcome) and all funds are going directly to Sassee. For details and to book your spot in advance go to bbawc.org/Sassee

Donate directly via PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/SasseeTNR) or Venmo (https://venmo.com/u/Sassee-Walker).

Sodas and seltzer provided, if you want to bring a potluck snack to share please email [email protected]

✨Transformation Tuesday✨

Mirai & Carolina came in with their mom and two siblings in October of last year, from a bodega who could no longer care for them. Mirai and Carolina were underweight for their age, lethargic, and not eating as much as they should.

Through the help of and the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and fosters the family regained their strength…

And look at Mirai and Carolina now! They’re almost a year old, and were adopted by their foster who took such amazing care of them through all of their health challenges.

Have updates on your adopted kittens? We love to see them!😸

This is Mobile Marcy.

He was found alone at just four weeks old — separated from his siblings, underweight, suffering from severe diarrhea (which can be fatal in kittens this young), and with his eyes completely crusted shut.

We gave Mobile a warm bath, fed him every few hours to build up his strength, and gently cleaned his eyes.

Swipe to see Mobile now after just a week of care!🐈‍⬛

It’s incredible to watch kittens like Mobile transform and thrive — but sadly, most kittens born outside aren’t so lucky. In NYC an estimated two million kittens are born outdoors every year, and only 25% survive past six months.

Mobile’s story could have ended very differently. Without widespread access to affordable spay/neuter services and veterinary care, this heartbreaking cycle of suffering continues.

Your support makes a difference. Together, we can work towards building a system that prevents this pain before it begins. Thank you.❤️

Our Story

Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC) was founded by a group of animal rescuers in 2007 with a focus on improving the welfare of abandoned animals in Brooklyn. The organization began working with individual animal rescuers to provide low cost veterinary services, adoption listing and screening services.

Finding foster homes for rescued cats and those accepted from city shelters became the organization’s top priority — but it was a major struggle without a central facility where rescuers, foster families and potential adoptees could meet together. The organization launched The Brooklyn Cat Cafe to address this need.

The cafe opened in May 2016 at a storefront location in historic Brooklyn Heights.

Brooklyn Cat Cafe is 100% volunteer-run, managed by the Director of BBAWC who oversees the business affairs, cat care regimen, and daily operations at the cafe. A team of volunteers serves at the cafe during open hours and prepares and cleans after hours. A supervisor certified in aspects of cat care is on site during all open hours.
