🐾🐾Feel Good Friday🐾🐾

In keeping with last week’s theme, this Friday we get to celebrate another double adoption!

Meet Lita (the white poochon) and Ollie (formerly Banjo, the shihtzu). Both came to our rescue a few months ago. Precious Lita was discarded by a breeder after being used as a mill momma, but she is now cherished beyond measure. Her new mom calls her a ‘treasure’.

Ollie, also from a puppy mill, is thriving in his fresh start. Sporting a new puppy cut and stylish clothes, he’s become best buddies with the family’s dog, Evie.

Here is what their new mom had to say:

“When our shihtzu Morgan died last August, we just couldn’t stand it. Our grief was so deep. It was too for our little shihtzu boy named Derby who was bonded to her. So we started putting in applications for shihtzus but they were always adopted. Finally, in October, we found a Shih Tzu-Bichon but she and Derby didn’t bond. So I went looking for a playmate for our other dog Evie. I took her to see Lita and they seemed to like each other, so we said yes to Lita!

But when my husband went to pick Lita up, he saw a Morgan look-alike, a shihtzu puppy, so we adopted him too! So now we have 4 dogs! Derby and Lita hang out together and Evie and Ollie are like Mom and son. They play all day long. Everyone is happy. These 4 are my antidepressants! My life’s work now is to end the puppy mills in PA. We feel like we saved 4 new lives and Morgan would be so pleased!”

🐾🐾Feel Good Friday🐾🐾

What’s better than one Feel Good Friday story? Two! 💕 Today we’re celebrating Winnie and Birdie (formerly Emerson and Nora)!

These sweet girls came to us earlier this summer after being rescued from a puppy mill. When their future family first visited, they adopted Winnie. But after going home, they couldn’t stop thinking about Birdie… so they came back and adopted her too!

Since Birdie is a Cavalier and Winnie a Cavapoo, and both came from the same mill, we even suspect they may be mother and daughter! Thankfully Birdie will never again be bred to have puppies, and Winnie will never have to experience that life at all.

Now, instead of cages and breeding, these two ladies are living their best lives—and even went on their very first vacation together!

Here’s what their family had to say…

“We couldn’t imagine our lives without these two! They fit right into our family. Easily trained and love going on walks! They just spent over ten days at our cabin with us and LOVED it! Swimming in the Clarion River and laying near the campfire watching us make s’mores. Winnie and Birdie even got to enjoy their first ever Pup Cup at the local ice cream stand near the river. Thank you Pet Adoption League for rescuing these two beautiful girls.”

The Pet Adoption League is a no-kill non-profit animal shelter founded in 1991 to aid unwanted, neglected, and/or abandoned pets in Westmoreland and Fayette counties. Until new homes can be found PAL provides shelter, food, and veterinary care (including spaying and neutering) to more than 500 needy animals yearly, with No Time Limit on their length of stay at our shelter. Despite our small operating budget we manage to care for and to place hundreds of animals year after year.
