Wilderness By Klaus

Wilderness By Klaus Our life-like environmental displays capture the essence of your outdoor adventures, preserving cherished memories in stunning detail.

Found in Cabela’s, Bass Pro, museums, resorts, and beyond, each unique scene tells a story seen across the globe. Where it began...

Wilderness by Klaus has a storied history that began over three decades ago when artist and whitetail enthusiast Klaus Lebrecht’s passion for the outdoors led him to the taxidermy industry, where antler and nature reproductions were in their infancy. He paid a fellow

to teach him how to make antler replicas by casting a mold of real antlers then pouring liquid plastic into the mold. Klaus spent years perfecting this craft, eventually landing on polyurethane plastic, which helped him achieve a hyper-realistic look. He began selling his reproductions to taxidermists, archery shops, corporate businesses and individuals. Soon clients came in droves for his lifelike antler reproductions, including Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, the NRA and the National Turkey Federation. Where it went...

New inspirations soon filled Klaus. He began using the same proprietary process he developed for antler productions to create hyper-realistic nature replicas and displays and launched a new business—Wilderness by Klaus. He also discovered a passion in the need for premium quality, exceptional blanks and display elements for the fish reproduction industry and started Waters by Klaus. Today, outdoor enthusiasts, retailers, nature centers, museums, resorts and theme parks hire him for his artistic skill and team of exceptional craftsman. The businesses he runs with his wife Nola have grown and become known for putting quality over quantity, using the highest-grade materials and being committed to unparalleled realism in every reproduction. Where to find our work…

Wilderness by Klaus outdoor scenes are unique, tell a story and are found all over the globe—from Bass Pro Shops, Field & Stream stores, Cabela’s retail shops to Kalahari Resorts, museums, nature centers, and hunter trophy rooms. His works have found prominence in wildlife books, magazines, catalogs and digital mediums too.

A great trophy display starts with proper care from the beginning.

In this Wilderness by Klaus highlight, Klaus discusses some of the most common mistakes people make during harvesting, field care, transport, and early handling. These early decisions can affect the finished mount, the long-term condition of the specimen, and the realism of the final display.

When a trophy is not handled properly, the damage may not always be obvious right away. Over time, issues can appear in the hide, hair, shape, structure, or overall presentation. Depending on the condition of the mount, our team can help with cleaning, repair, restoration, touch-ups, and display planning.

lashback Friday from the Wilderness by Klaus archives.

We recently found some old GoPro timelapse footage from our project for the North American Bear Center in Ely, Minnesota, and we thought it was worth sharing.

This clip gives a behind-the-scenes look at the installation of a large reproduction pine created for an immersive wildlife display. Even when a tree is a reproduction, installing one at this scale still takes a lot of help, planning, engineering, and forethought.

Projects like this are where art, habitat design, fabrication, and installation experience all come together. Whether we are creating museum displays, educational exhibits, wildlife environments, or custom trophy rooms, our goal is always to build spaces that feel authentic, engaging, and true to the natural world.

Moth and bug damage can quietly destroy a mount before many people realize there is a problem.

In this Wilderness by Klaus highlight, Klaus discusses one of the most common issues that affects taxidermy specimens and wildlife displays: insect infestations. Moths and other pests can damage the hair, fur, feathers, and organic materials that make a mount look natural and lifelike.

For private trophy rooms, museums, nature centers, outdoor retailers, and public displays, regular care is an important part of preserving the investment.

At Wilderness by Klaus, we create immersive, museum-quality wildlife displays and also help protect existing mounts and habitats through specialized cleaning, restoration, repair, touch-ups, and bug prevention. Our work is designed to preserve the realism of the specimen and the environment around it, from the mount itself to the scenic details that complete the display.

If a mount has suffered moth damage, bug damage, hair loss, deterioration, fading, or age-related wear, there may still be restoration options. If the damage is too severe, Wilderness by Klaus can also discuss recreation options using original images to help bring the memory back in a new, lifelike form.

If your trophy room, museum exhibit, retail display, or wildlife installation needs cleaning, restoration, repair, or bug prevention, connect with Wilderness by Klaus today.

A trophy room should be more than a place to display mounts. It should bring the story of the hunt back to life.

This bespoke trophy room was created by Wilderness by Klaus for a private client who wanted a custom space designed around his collection, his adventures, and the wild places that shaped those memories.

At Wilderness by Klaus, we create immersive trophy rooms that surround your mounts with the terrain, textures, atmosphere, and details of authentic habitats. From sculpted rock formations and custom trees to scenic murals, natural ground cover, habitat elements, and strategic mount placement, every feature is built to make the room feel alive with the spirit of the outdoors.

For avid outdoorsmen, hunters, and collectors, a custom trophy room is more than a display. It is a place to relive the chase, share the story, and preserve a lifetime of outdoor adventures in a setting worthy of the memories.

Sunlight can change the look of a trophy over time.

In this Wilderness by Klaus highlight, Klaus discusses one of the most common display mistakes people make: placing mounts or wildlife displays where intense sunlight and UV exposure can cause fading, dullness, and long-term damage.

A trophy room, museum exhibit, nature center display, or outdoor retail installation should be planned with preservation in mind. Proper placement helps protect the specimen, the scenic elements, and the realism of the overall display.

At Wilderness by Klaus, we create immersive, museum-quality wildlife displays with lifelike terrain, rockwork, vegetation, murals, scenic elements, and habitat details. We also help care for existing displays through cleaning, touch-ups, repair, repainting, restoration, and ongoing maintenance.

If sunlight has faded a mount, dulled the finish, damaged scenic elements, or reduced the lifelike quality of a display, there may be restoration options. And if the damage is too severe, Wilderness by Klaus can discuss recreating a mount from original images to help preserve the memory in a new, realistic form.

If your trophy room, museum exhibit, retail display, or wildlife installation needs cleaning, repair, restoration, or a better long-term display plan, connect with Wilderness by Klaus today.

In this video, Klaus walks through a piece of handcrafted rockwork created by Wilderness by Klaus for the display of a pair of Big Horn sheep at trade shows. Every ridge, rock fracture, shadow, and tone was built with purpose, capturing not only the rugged structure of the original rock formation, but the natural color shifts that come from mineral contents found in real stone.

This is where artistry, knowledge, and precision come together to create displays that seem to be plucked directly from nature.

At Wilderness by Klaus, we are known for creating hyper-realistic rock formations, habitats, and wildlife displays that mimic real environments found around the world. Whether the project is for a trophy room, museum, outdoor retail space, trade show, or custom exhibit, our team works to recreate nature in a way that feels authentic up close and unforgettable from a distance.

Klaus Lebrecht has seen a lot in the world of taxidermy, including the good, the bad, and the mistakes that can cost you a quality mount.

In this video, Klaus breaks down some of the biggest issues he sees when it comes to taxidermy, from making sure your harvested animal is in the best possible condition for mounting to understanding the environmental factors that can damage or ruin mounts over time.

Whether you’re preparing for your first mount, starting to collect specimens, buying existing taxidermy, or simply trying to better protect the pieces you already own, this is valuable insight from someone who understands the craft, the details, and the long-term care that quality taxidermy requires.

A great mount starts long before it reaches the wall, and proper care does not stop once it is there.

Murals are more than a backdrop. In the right hands, they become part of the environment itself. 🌲🎨

At Wilderness by Klaus, our immersive murals are created to add depth, distance, atmosphere, and realism to each display. Much like the scenic artistry used by old Hollywood studios during their golden age, these painted environments help extend the scene beyond the physical space and make visitors feel as though they have stepped into the wild.

But the magic happens when the mural works together with the rest of the habitat.

Our murals are designed in coordination with bespoke environmental features like custom rockwork, sculpted terrain, trees, vegetation, and habitat details. Every layer is considered. Every transition matters. The painted background, the physical foreground, and the wildlife within the scene all work together to create one seamless, believable environment.

From natural history museums and education centers to private trophy rooms, retail spaces, attractions, and immersive wildlife displays across North America, our goal is always the same. Build environments that feel authentic, tell a story, and bring the wild to life.
