Backed by 35+ years in wildlife displays, our expert team and biologist craft premium blanks with unmatched detail, accurate anatomy, and state-of-the-art materials for lifelike results. Waters by Klaus was inspired by a need for premium-quality, exceptional blanks and display elements for the fish reproduction industry. Through our other company ventures as Antlers by Klaus and Nature by Klaus, w

e’ve been serving the wildlife displays industry in different areas for over 35 years. We’ve created several hundred fish displays for corporate, retail and private client displays – and purchased hundreds (maybe thousands) of fish blanks. Many of the blanks currently available simply require extensive (expensive) work to make them — in our eyes — suitable for use. After reviewing our concerns with dozens of taxidermists and peers, it was clear our issues were not unique. Additional problems included inaccurate anatomy, significant casting defects, inconsistency from order to order, low-quality detail, minimal inner-mouth and tooth detail, unrealistic and poor-fitting gills, and thick, inflexible fins. We applied our 35 years of molding experience, recruited a team of fish experts and a fish biologist to our team, and invested 3-years of research and development into state-of-the-art methods, materials and techniques for crafting fish reproductions.

Take a look at how we have made your fish blanks for years!

In this reel, Klaus Lebrecht shows a fish blank being made the traditional way through rotocasting, a process that has helped Waters by Klaus establish its reputation for excellence.

We are currently making both traditionally molded blanks and 3D printed blanks. However, over the next two years, we will be fully transitioning into 3D printing as we continue working toward greater accuracy, cleaner starting surfaces, and more options for fish artists and taxidermists.

Klaus has discussed many of the advantages of 3D printing in our past videos, along with the unique challenges that come with fully embracing the new technology. We invite you to look back through our videos to learn more about where we are headed and how we are making the change.

The freedoms we enjoy with family, friends, and time spent outdoors were protected by their sacrifice. We remember them with gratitude this Memorial Day.

Take a closer look inside one of our 3D printed bass heads with Klaus Lebrecht.

In this video, Klaus shows the inner-mouth detail we are now able to preserve through our 3D printed production process and explains why this shift is such an important step forward for Waters by Klaus, fish taxidermists, and fish artists.

Traditional molding has served the industry for a long time, but maintaining high levels of detail, fit, and order-to-order consistency could be difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. With 3D printing, we are able to capture crisp anatomical detail, improve consistency, and build a cleaner, more predictable production process.

What does that mean for you?

As we continue moving the Waters by Klaus catalog into 3D printed production, we will be able to fill orders faster, bring more sizes, poses, and options to market, and deliver a better product designed to make your work easier in the shop.

More detail. More consistency. More options. Less time spent fighting the blank, and more time bringing the fish to life.

That is the direction we are building toward, and we are excited to show you what is coming next.

In this highlight, Klaus explains why thin, shapeable fins and translucent fins, when appropriate for the species, are such an important part of creating a realistic fish reproduction. Using one of our new 3D printed blanks, he demonstrates how the fins are designed to be thin, flexible, translucent, and still strong enough to hold up over time.

For fish artists and taxidermists, those details matter. The right blank gives you a better foundation, cleaner realism, and more control when bringing the finished piece to life.
