R+ Dog trainers Janette and Emma recently attended Kirsten’s Chicken Workshop and had the opportunity to learn from legendary behavior expert Dr. Bob Bailey! 🐓

Kirsten’s Chicken Workshops are hands-on workshops designed to sharpen a trainer’s mechanical skills. Chickens are used because they learn quickly, can’t easily be physically manipulated, and make poor timing immediately obvious - making them incredible teachers for science-based training.

Dr. Bob Bailey emphasized key training principles like timing, observation, clear criteria, reinforcement placement, rate of reinforcement, stimulus control, and keeping trainer emotion and ego out of the learning process. The skills learned can then be applied to dogs, birds, marine mammals, and more.

We’re excited to announce that R+ Dog’s very own Janette Rael has been appointed Vice President of the New Orleans German Shepherd Rescue!

The New Orleans German Shepherd Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and welfare of German Shepherd Dogs in the Greater New Orleans area. Their mission is to place unwanted, abandoned, and neglected German Shepherds into safe, caring foster homes where they can heal, regain confidence, and learn how to thrive in a home environment before being carefully matched with loving adoptive families.

Many of the dogs come from local shelters after their stray holds are complete and no owners come forward to claim them. Once in rescue care, each dog receives the medical attention, emotional support, and individualized care they need to become healthy and whole again. They are then placed with foster families who share the organization’s values and treat every dog like family.
