🥺 **THE BLANKET FELT LIKE KINDNESS. BUT OUTSIDE, IT CAN BECOME COLD AND WET.**
Every winter, people put blankets and towels inside outdoor cat shelters because they want to keep stray cats warm. ❤️
But here's the problem: fabric can absorb moisture from rain, snow, and damp air. When it gets wet, it can leave a cat colder instead of helping it stay warm.
🐾 **THE BETTER CHOICE? STRAW.**
🌾 **Straw, not hay:** Straw repels moisture better and gives cats material they can burrow into.
🏠 **Keep the shelter small:** A compact shelter holds body heat more effectively than a large, drafty space.
🧱 **Lift it off the ground:** Use a stable platform to help protect the shelter from cold, wet surfaces.
❄️ **Check it regularly:** Replace damp or dirty straw, clear snow from the entrance, and make sure the shelter stays dry.
🍽️ **Don't forget food and water:** Outdoor cats need reliable access to food and unfrozen water, especially in cold weather.
The person who placed that blanket meant well. But sometimes, learning a better way to help makes all the difference.
**Before the first freeze, share this with someone who cares for community cats. One small change could help a cat get through a cold night.** 🐈❤️
