6/28/25 Some call it over-reacting, call it whatever you want, but all of us at Missing Dogs Massachusetts want you to do everything you can to keep your dogs safe. Your dog may be ok today, but maybe there will come a time when they won't be. We can't post these warnings enough.
Cold hard facts: This time of year more dogs enter the shelter systems due to being spooked by fireworks, parades, etc. Many go home. Some end up miles and miles away from their homes in shelters. And even worse, some are still out there with families praying for a miracle.
It's facts and statistics that we deal with every single day at Missing Dogs Massachusetts and at many other organizations like ours.
Take steps to keep them safe today!
1. Look over your dog's leash and collar hardware- are clasps, hooks wearing out?
2. What about your pup's ID tags- can you read them? Is your town license that's on their collar up to date?
3. Is your dog microchipped? Is the chip's registration up to date? And did you know, a microchip is only as good as its current up to date registration and a microchip is NOT a GPS device!
4. Walk your dogs early, accompany them into your yard so they can't jump a fence or escape a gate in fear
5. If you have go to out, leave them home and provide them with a quiet, safe space in the home with their favorite treat.
6. If you have a very fearful dog, then NOW is the time to reach out to your vet for calming aids
Don't think.... Oh my dog is fine, because in a split second they might not be. Help keep them safe!
