IN MEMORY OF K9 KODI
Oxford, North Carolina Police Department

We are deeply saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of K9 Kodi due to an unforeseen infection.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Ofc. Vaughan, the Oxford Police Department, and everyone who knew and worked alongside Kodi. We were proud to have Kodi and Ofc. Vaughan train with us and become part of the Southern Police Canine family.

Rest easy, K9 Kodi. Your watch is over. 🖤🐾

Future K9 Handlers… or Just Future Dog Spoilers? 🐾😄

This week, we had some special visitors at Southern Police Canine! 🐾 The Nash County 4-H came out to see what our dogs—and their handlers—can do.

The kids got a firsthand look at K9 training, working dogs, and just how much fun it is to watch a dog do what it loves. We may have even sparked the interest of a future law enforcement K9 handler or two… although a few may have decided they’d rather just take one of the dogs home. 😄🐕

A special thanks to the Nash County Sheriff's Office for sponsoring the camp and bringing the kids out for a visit!

And a big thank-you to our current handlers in training from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, McCormick County Sheriff’s Office (SC), Klamath Falls Police Department (OR), and Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office (WI) for taking time out of their training to demonstrate their work. We’re not sure who had more fun—the kids, the handlers, or the dogs showing off for an audience! 😂

Maybe one day, one of these kids will be back here—not just watching the dogs work, but holding the leash. 🐾👮‍♂️

HIGH-RISK TACTICAL TRACKING

**NEW DATES**
March 22-25, 2027
Get on your department's calendar now!

Southern Police Canine is bringing back a no-fail, scenario-driven Tactical Tracking course built for real-world rural operations.

This is 4 days of continuous, operational training focused on locating, tracking, containing, and safely apprehending high-risk subjects across miles of rural terrain. Patrol officers and K9 handlers will operate as integrated teams, executing coordinated search and apprehension tactics under realistic stress-based scenarios.

Training includes:
• Rural tactical tracking operations
• Patrol/K9 team integration and deployment
• High-risk search, containment, and apprehension tactics
• Force-on-force scenarios utilizing marking cartridges
• Real-time communication, decision-making, and team movement under pressure

This course is designed to replicate the pace, uncertainty, and demands of real-world manhunts in rural environments—where coordination and ex*****on matter most.

That's a wrap on our western seminar tour!

Two weeks ago, Mark Mills wrapped up our final Advanced Canine Utilization & Problem-Solving Seminar of the western swing with the Klamath Falls Police Department.

It's always rewarding to see handler-and-K9 teams we trained continuing to sharpen their skills. These handlers trained at Southern Police Canine's headquarters in North Carolina, and their K9 partners came from SPC.

The training was serious... but the dogs still managed to remind everyone who they think the real instructors are.

Thank you to the Klamath Falls Police Department for another great week of training and hospitality. We appreciate your commitment to keeping your K9 teams at the top of their game.

We'll see you down the road!

Well done! We were glad to be a part of this department's recertification.

We're proud to share this recap from the Sauk County Sheriff's Office of our 2026 Wisconsin Canine Conference.

In May, 24 K-9 teams from 13 agencies came together for a week of advanced patrol training, focusing on tactical deployments, scenario-based problem solving, and building operational proficiency under realistic conditions.

Thank you to the Sauk County Sheriff's Office County Sheriff's Office for hosting an outstanding event and to everyone who helped make the week a success. Check out their photos below.

Another great week of training is in the books!

Mark Mills has wrapped up our Advanced Canine Utilization & Problem-Solving Seminar with the Helena Montana Police Department. While we missed having the Missoula Police Department K9 teams with us this year, these photos prove one thing—these teams are duty-ready... even if a few of the K9s were more interested in posing for the camera than smiling.

Every handler featured here trained at Southern Police Canine's headquarters in North Carolina, where they were paired with a canine carefully selected to meet their agency's operational needs. It's always rewarding to see these handler-and-K9 teams continue to grow, succeed, and make a difference in their communities.

Next stop: Klamath Falls Police Department in Oregon, where another group of handlers—and probably a few opinionated dogs—will be ready to tackle advanced training and real-world problem solving.

At Southern Police Canine, our commitment doesn't end when a dog goes home. We continue supporting our handlers and their K9 partners with advanced training, seminars, and ongoing guidance to keep every team operating at the highest level.

Thanks to the Helena Police Department for another outstanding week. Safe travels to all the teams—and remember, the dogs are always convinced they were the top performers!
