What a week it's been for this little guy.
"Oscar" came into our SOAR family 2.5 years ago and, as far as we knew, he had found his perfect home. Then last week, a PetLink alert changed everything. He'd been picked up as a stray. We reachedout to his adopters right away — and that's when we learned the full story. They'd beenrelocated, needed to rehome him, and the placement didn't go the way it should have. The newhome had two large, rambunctious puppies and an overwhelmed owner who kept putting this10 lb dog outside. When she finally came to collect him from the kind woman who'd found him,she walked away and left him there. Just like that.
Oscar came that close to ending up back on the street.
This is exactly why we are always listed as the second contact on every microchip. And why our adoption contract requires you to reach out to us before rehoming. Not to judge you. Not to shame you. But to 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽. We want to help you work through whatever is making things hard —training, supplies, medical support, guidance through a responsible rehoming process. And if none of that is possible, your pet comes back to us. Because we made a commitment to thatanimal the moment they left our care, and we don't take that lightly.
Every single pet that comes through our program matters to us. Every one.
Now, about Oscar. This grumpy-faced, 10 lb, 7.5-year-old is somehow simultaneously the most Oscar-the-Grouch-looking and thankful and lovable dog you will meet this week. He does well with calm,mellow dogs and would thrive in a quieter home with older kids. He's currently a little too curious about cats, and he'll need someone patient while he finds his footing again. Hedeserves that. He's earned it.
