Every pet parent should have a basic first aid kit at home. Here's what to keep on hand and why:
🩹 Gauze & bandage wrap — for covering wounds until you can get to the vet
✂️ Blunt-tip scissors — safely cut away fur or bandaging around an injury
🌡️ Digital thermometer — normal pet temp is 101-102.5°F, anything higher needs attention
🧴 Hydrogen peroxide — can induce vomiting in dogs, but only use it when we advise you to
💊 Benadryl — always call us for the correct dose first
🧤 Gloves — protect yourself and keep wounds clean
📋 Emergency numbers — your vet, nearest emergency clinic, and ASPCA Poison Control (888-426-4435)

Summer in Nashville means lots of time near the water, but not every dog is a natural swimmer! 🌊

If your pup is new to swimming, always start in shallow water and never leave them unsupervised. A doggy life jacket is a great investment for boats or deeper water.

Watch for signs of exhaustion too. Dogs often won't stop swimming on their own until it's too late.

It might seem like a "cool" idea, but your pet's coat is actually their best defense against the Tennessee heat! ☀️🐾

Instead of a shave, regular brushing to remove the undercoat is the best way to help them stay comfortable as the temperatures rise.
