Today is Nation Check the Chip Day. Microchips are smaller than a grain of rice and fit under your pets skin. Microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…but a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate.

If your pet isn’t already microchipped, make an appointment with your veterinarian now for microchipping.

Register your pets chip immediately with the manufacturer, making sure all of your contact information is included.

Ask your veterinarian to scan the microchip during your pet's annual wellness exam every year.

Each year on Check the Chip Day, check your pet's microchip registration information and update it if it's incomplete or no longer correct.

"At River Oaks Animal Hospital, we believe prevention is the best medicine — and vaccines are one of the most powerful ways to protect your pet’s health.

Why we vaccinate:

🐶 Dogs: Prevent deadly diseases like rabies, parvovirus, distemper, and kennel cough — illnesses that can spread quickly and cause severe illness or death.
🐱 Cats: Guard against rabies, feline leukemia, panleukopenia, and respiratory infections — some of which can spread to other pets or even people.

Vaccines don’t just keep your pet safe — they protect other animals and the community by stopping disease before it spreads.

Even indoor pets are at risk from germs brought in on clothing, other animals, or through open doors and windows.

📆 Is your pet up-to-date? A wellness appointment can prevent heartbreak tomorrow.

🚔🐾 Supporting Our Local Heroes 🐾🚔

River Oaks Animal Hospital is proud to have donated a kennel for one of the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s newest K9 officers. Today, the K9 officers and their handlers stopped by to show their appreciation, and we had the incredible opportunity to meet these hardworking dogs and learn more about their important roles in keeping our community safe.

We are so thankful for the dedication and service these teams provide every day and are honored to offer our support. 🖤💙 Thank you for letting us say hello to your amazing four-legged officers and their equally amazing human partners! If you need anything in the future, let us know!

Last week, we turned back the clock for an old fashioned FIELD DAY because sometimes you just have to swap scrubs for sneakers and let loose! 🎉

We fired up the grill for burgers, chips, and plenty of laughs… then things got serious. 🏆 Egg-on-a-spoon races tested our balance, tug-of-war tested our strength, balloon pops and three-legged races tested our coordination and teamwork. The bob sled race was pure chaos in the best way.

We finished strong with a giant backyard waterslide 💦 and popsicles to cool off.

This crew works hard, but we play even harder and there’s no team we’d rather have by our side serving this amazing community. 💛

Happy DOGust to all of our shelter dogs. Many dog parents call the eighth month of the year ‘Dogust’ because it’s National Dog Month and includes the Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs. This special month was made to honor the pups in our lives who were adopted or rescued. An adopted dog's birthdate can be a bit murky since rescues or shelters may not know a pup’s exact backstory. So to all of our shelter rescues out there we hope you have a happy DOGust!!

🐶🐱 A tiny chip can make a BIG difference.

No one plans to lose a pet—but accidents happen. Whether a door is left open or a leash slips, pets can go missing in an instant.

Microchipping is a simple, permanent way to give your pet the best chance of making it back home.

💡 Why microchip?
✔️ It can’t fall off like a collar
✔️ It’s quick, safe, and affordable
✔️ It dramatically increases the chance of being reunited

📢 Already have your pet microchipped? Don’t forget:
If you’ve recently moved, changed your phone number, or updated your email, make sure your contact info is current with your microchip company. A chip is only effective if your info is correct!

At River Oaks Animal Hospital, we’re here to help keep your pets safe—for life.

📞 Call us today if you have questions regarding microchipping your pet!

Our Story

At River Oaks Animal Hospital, you can expect a different type of veterinary visit. I opened the hospital after realizing the need for personalized pet care and attentiveness to the pet parent. This stemmed directly from my own experience with pediatrician offices and my desire for them to “know” my children, not just see them as the next appointment. It dawned on me that pet parents were looking for the same experience. So the philosophy of excellent customer service, personalized pet care, and relationship building was born.

I completely understand the joy that pets bring to our lives and so my team celebrates that human-animal bond. By educating pet owners and advocating the best possible care for our patients, we demonstrate our commitment to animals, to their family, and to our community. My team is constantly improving themselves so that we can further nurture that bond. In the past couple of years we have become a Fear – Free Certified Hospital and are completing the Low Stress Handling University by the late Dr. Sophia Yin.

Pets are only half of the equation, their guardians are the other half and making a visit to my hospital a great experience is my passion. In today’s society, customer service is a dying art and we are working hard to turn that around. By focusing on great preventative care, educating you on your options, and providing progressive medical services, we are the team you need to keep your pet healthy.

We are so grateful for all of our wonderful patients and friends and look forward to welcoming you to the River Oaks Family!
