Housecat Highlights. Today we want you to meet Dora. Dora came to us after being attacked by a dog. She had severe injuries causing her to lose one leg and be crippled on another leg. Dora is a happy cat and pays no mind to her disability. She will turn 14 years old in August 2026.

Abscesses in cats. An abscess can occur when a cat bites or claws another cat. The teeth or claws puncture the skin dragging in bacteria. These bacteria will cause a painful, pus-filled pocket under the skin. Signs of an abscess are a firm or soft lump, limping, loss of appetite, hiding or lethargy. Sometimes the lump will rupture, and drain out a thick, foul-smelling pus. Other times a veterinarian will need to lance the lump, drain and clean the wound. Either way veterinary care is necessary to prevent further infection and discomfort for the cat. The veterinarian will clean the wound and give the cat antibiotics to fight the infection. Camo had an abscess on her head. She is doing well now after treatment.

Today we introduce Bobbi. She was handed to us through the fence from the guys at the lumber yard. She had a severe wound to her leg. We nursed her back to health and she became part of our family. Bobbi is our oldest housecat. She will turn 14 in June.

Did you know we use ultrasound for various diagnostic purposes? Ultrasound is non-invasive. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of soft tissues and organs inside the body. This can help the doctor diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, such as kidney or bladder stones, gallstones, enlarged spleen, pregnancy and so much more. Your pet will be place on "pillows" to make them as comfortable as possible. The probe used will have a lubricant applied to the end that touches the body. Alcohol is also used on the patient. The lubricant and alcohol help transmit ultrasound waves to and from the transducer or probe. This gives the doctor pictures or videos in real time of organs and soft tissue.
