Let's talk Parvo 🦠

As we move into spring, we are seeing an increase in canine parvovirus cases in our community. Parvo is not a typical stomach bug that a dog can simply outgrow or fight off through natural grit. The virus is exceptionally hardy, remaining infectious in soil or on surfaces for years.

Core puppy vaccines introduce the immune system to the virus in a controlled environment. Without these vaccines, a puppy has no real biological defense, and the virus moves faster than the body can react—typically leading to catastrophic consequences. However, protection must also continue into adulthood because immunity is not a permanent state. Over time, a dog’s antibody levels can decline, which is why maintaining a relationship with a general practice veterinarian is vital to keeping your pet’s health and defenses strong.

With that said, we know that life is unpredictable and things happen. Whether a vaccine was missed or the virus simply found a way through, we know the most important thing is getting your dog the help they need, as soon as possible. 💚

If you find yourself facing a potential Parvo case, please do not hesitate to reach out. As a 24/7 emergency clinic, with a team that is deeply experienced in managing these cases, we are here to support you with compassion. We know how stressful it is when your beloved pet is ill, and our priority is to act as your partner in your pet's recovery. Our doors are always open, 24/7 365 days a year, to provide the intensive, high-quality, around-the-clock care your pet deserves. If something feels wrong, don't wait, we are always here for you.

No pet owner wants to experience a 4 AM respiratory emergency with their pet, but when Ellie’s family found themselves in that exact position, they knew we'd be here for them. Upon arrival, our team moved quickly to make Ellie more comfortable, provide her with oxygen support, and start getting answers. With supportive care, Ellie improved quickly, and we were able to guide her family on the next steps for her care. We’re grateful we could be there for them when it mattered most. 💚

We had such a great time partnering with the WSU Feline Club for a triage lab hosted by our own Dr. Schultz and Veterinary Assistant and Student Ambassador Trinity. We truly value getting to be a part of these hands on learning opportunities and supporting the next generation of veterinarians. 💚

Meet the incredible Ruffles. 🐾

This wonderful boy, even on his down days, greeted our team with excitement and purrs. No matter who greeted him, he was just happy to melt into staff’s arms, as you can see. 💚

This perfect gentleman of a feline was brought in by his loving family when he was experiencing some respiratory distress. Our team rushed to get Ruffles more comfortable and find the cause of his issues. We performed some quick in-house diagnostics and learned Ruffles was fighting a serious chest infection. After spending a few days with our team and lots of supportive care, Ruffles started to improve. Now, we are so grateful to announce this sweet boy is reunited with his dedicated family. ✨

We know just how important same day high-quality care can be for your beloved pets (like Ruffles). That's why we are open 24/7, 365 days a year, for all your emergency and critical care pet needs! You can find us ready to help at 212 Rodeo Drive in Moscow. 🐾🏥

Yesterday, our team of veterinarians (and a few future veterinarians) spent the day working directly with leadership from our Viking Vet network! ✨

They got hands-on working on surgical techniques, chest tube placements, NG tube placements, and more. They got to experience real practice, with real-time feedback, and the chance to refine skills alongside people who are doing this work every day.

Opportunities like this are a direct reflection of what the Viking Vet network makes possible—access to experienced leadership, collaboration across hospitals, and continued investment in developing strong, capable teams so we can provide the best level of care for your pets, every time. We’re really proud to be part of a network that prioritizes this level of education and collaboration and even more proud of a team that shows up ready to learn every single time. 💚

This weekend we had a blast at the WSU Vet Med annual open house 💚

Getting to meet so many community members, future veterinarians, and plenty of four-legged companions was such a highlight. It’s a great reminder of how special this community is, and we’re really grateful to be part of it.🐾

Meet Smokey! 🐾

Smokey is the absolute best boy whose loving family brought him in after noticing a wound on his side. Our team worked quickly to keep him comfortable and get him on the road to healing. In this photo, our incredible staff is re-checking the wound to ensure everything is healing nicely. While some cats can require sedation for such close and personal procedures, Smokey proved to be exceptionally brave and patient. This sweet boy was happy to cooperate in exchange for a little extra attention and some head pats. We are so proud of his progress and grateful that we could be there for Smokey and his family when they needed us most. 💚
