Busy weekend. I went up to PA for the SMCA NorthEast Regions event on Friday and Saturday. Jennifer Kellog did a hell of a job on organizing a great event! Thank you to her and her team of , Wendy Jordan, Doug Lyon, and Lee Corbin for all the work that they put into organizing the event.
It was good to see familiar faces and meet some new folks. It was an added surprise to see two of our pups, Trinity with Dennis Schaeffer and Briar with Amanda Smith, there! Thank you to all who came out. I love the dedication our owners show to these amazing dogs!
I got home from the event at 01:45 a.m.. I missed my turn because I was on the phone, thanks Dave! Got up at 6 a.m. for training. I had to come to the firehouse today to take a break.😄

I missed National Dog Day, but after six weeks and 13 hours in the chair, it’s done. Church and Ruby have had a profound impact on my life. Before them, the grind was getting to me. I used to hunt one week out of the year in Wisconsin and a couple of times a year at a preserve. I lived in the suburbs, right on top of my neighbors, and knew enough about dog training that I could get them to sit. I got Church, and the following year, I got Ruby. Now, we hunt wild birds about six weeks a year (more to come when I retire in 2029) and guide preserve hunts the rest of the year. We bought some land, I built our house, and started our kennel, and we have had two litters of exceptional pups. I started my journey as a trainer and now help people train their dogs through weekend trainings. It’s going well; we now offer trainings on both Saturday and Sunday. I don’t like thinking of life without them, so I got this. I will always have something of them with me. When people ask me “What are they?” I say “These dogs? These are the best damn dogs ever.”

Throughout my life, I have seen a lot of things, both good and bad.From my time at the firehouse to hunting, and now training folks and dogs , few of those things rival the enjoyment of watching kids work with dogs, and dogs working kids.😄 It’s not always the smoothest or best scenario but it’s fun to watch. I get caught up sometimes with hitting benchmarks and having the most productive sessions I can and I miss out on the joy. If you get the opportunity take a kid out hunting or training do it. You will remember the happy faces, kids and dogs, forever.

Had an absolutely great weekend of training! SMCA member Todd Jagelski came down for the weekend to get some work in. The Peitingers returned from their summer back home in Austria. Their Large Munsterlander Siri didn’t miss a beat. Great weekend lots of progress with both handlers and dogs.

Munsters outnumbered GSP’s at training this weekend! SMCA Ohio Valley members Daniel Mann, and Joe and Kim Perry visited. Cooler temps gave us some extra time. Dogs are looking good for the upcoming season.
