Update on the 25 horses confiscated on the way to Slaughter House.
🐴💔 25 HORSES SAVED FROM SLAUGHTER IN NEW YORK — NOW, THEY FINALLY HAVE A CHANCE TO LIVE!
A journey that was supposed to end in a slaughterhouse has taken a different turn.
On September 2, 2026, New York State Police intercepted a truck in DeKalb, St. Lawrence County, carrying 25 horses destined for slaughter in Canada.
The truck was travelling from Pennsylvania towards a Canadian slaughterhouse when authorities stopped it following an investigation involving animal-welfare advocates, including Animals’ Angels and the New York State Humane Association.
Among the 25 horses were 13 former Standardbred racehorses. Reports revealed that several animals were in poor condition, with concerns including injuries, overcrowding and respiratory illness.
The horses were removed from the shipment and placed under veterinary care.
❤️ NOW, THERE IS HOPE.
In an important development reported on October 29, Dorset Equine Rescue confirmed that all 25 horses had officially been surrendered.
Dorset Equine Rescue is working with Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital to provide veterinary care and arrange safe homes. Three horses are expected to remain in Dorset, Vermont, while the others are being placed in suitable homes.
Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue has also confirmed that two of the rescued horses arrived at its sanctuary in New York on October 10.
These horses deserve more than simply being rescued from a truck. They deserve patience, proper care, companionship and the opportunity to live without fear.
💔 They were once treated as commodities. Now, they have a chance to be valued as living beings.
This rescue also demonstrates what determined investigators, animal advocates, law enforcement and rescue organizations can accomplish when they work together.
But 25 lives saved should not make us forget the countless other horses still caught in the slaughter pipeline.
A SECOND CHANCE IS NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR.
