Dominic Update 💙

Dominic continues to make slow but steady progress.

He is still experiencing some leaking, but we were reminded that Proin can take a month or longer to fully build up and show its best effect, so we’re staying the course and being patient with his body while it adjusts.

The good news is that his keratin cyst is healing exactly the way it should. The redness and swelling have gone down significantly, and the crusted skin and scab have started to release around about half of the area. Daily Epsom salt compresses are helping soften things up so the area can continue to heal naturally. Dominic isn’t thrilled about the direct attention (apparently salty compresses are an affront to his dignity 😆), but he’s been an absolute gentleman through it all.

He seems to appreciate his t-shirt in the colder weather, which has the added bonus of protecting the healing spot. And despite everything, Dominic remains calm, sweet, and patient — truly living up to his “good boy” reputation.

The last photo was taken during his consult at NC State, where he was drifting into a nice nap… until a very vocal cat in the next room chose chaos. Dominic briefly considered a jog to investigate, but the cat declined the invitation and continued screaming. Probably for the best — she was fast and in a mood. 🙀

And yes — Dominic has officially found his Christmas spirit, festive bandana and all.

Thank you to everyone following along and supporting this sweet boy as he heals. He’s doing well, he’s comfortable, and he’s very loved. 💙🐾

Zoey Update 🐾❄️

Zoey has made an important discovery, and she would like it officially noted for the record:
👉 She prefers the fluffy boys.

The sleek, short-coated GSPs? Meh.
The other smooth, low-maintenance models? Pass.

Zoey has set her sights on Bentley, the deluxe, extra-fluff edition.

With her petite frame and tiny weight, we’re not entirely sure what her plan is—but current theories include:
• Snuggling Bentley for warmth like a living heated blanket
• Stealing his fur strand by strand to craft herself a winter coat
• Or formally requesting that Bentley move in with her for the season as her personal insulation unit

As temperatures drop, Zoey would like to submit the following proposal:

“Bentley lives with me all winter. I borrow his fluff for outdoor adventures and nighttime snuggles. Everyone wins.”

Bentley has not yet commented, but Zoey remains very committed to this plan. 😌🐶💙

Stay tuned—winter negotiations are clearly underway.

🥓🐾 Happy National Bacon Day! 🐾🥓

Today we celebrate National Bacon Day — and let’s be honest…
there is no smell on earth more powerful to a dog than bacon.

Is bacon loaded with fat?
Yes.
Is it something dogs should eat all the time?
Absolutely not.

But is it every dog’s favorite forbidden treasure?
Without question. 😆

Dogs everywhere agree on exactly one thing:
🥓 Bacon is life.

🐶 Why Dogs Love Bacon (So Much)
• The smell travels for miles (scientifically unproven but emotionally true)
• It hits every pleasure receptor a dog has
• It instantly turns “selective listeners” into model citizens

🏡 Bacon Saves Lives (Seriously)

Here’s something many people don’t realize — bacon is often used to help bring lost dogs home.

Rescuers and owners alike will tell you:
🔥 Cooking bacon outside can help draw a lost dog back home
🔥 The scent carries far and can cut through fear and confusion
🔥 It’s one of the most reliable tools when searching for a missing dog

Yes — bacon isn’t just delicious.
Sometimes, it’s a lifeline.

🦴 Bacon-Flavored (But Safer) Options

If you want to spoil your pup without the grease overload, bacon-flavored dog treats are a great alternative:
• Bacon-flavored training treats
• Bacon-infused chews
• Freeze-dried treats with bacon essence
• Low-fat, dog-formulated snacks

They get the flavor they love — without wrecking their stomachs.

🐾🥓 Dog-Safe Bacon Treat Recipe

A little bacon goes a long way!

Ingredients:
• 2 strips turkey bacon (lower fat than pork bacon)
• 1 cup oat flour
• 1 egg
• 2–3 tablespoons water

Instructions:
1️⃣ Cook turkey bacon until crisp, then blot off excess grease
2️⃣ Finely chop or crumble bacon
3️⃣ Mix bacon, oat flour, egg, and water until dough forms
4️⃣ Roll out and cut into small bite-sized pieces
5️⃣ Bake at 350°F for 12–15 minutes until firm
6️⃣ Cool completely before serving

✔️ Use as high-value treats
✔️ Small portions only
✔️ Store in fridge or freezer

So today, we honor the snack that dogs worship, rescues rely on, and noses will follow anywhere.

Happy National Bacon Day —
may your kitchen smell amazing, your dog sit perfectly, and your bacon be just out of reach. 🥓🐾😄

Moose continues to settle in and show us more of who he is every day. Inside the house, things are coming along nicely—Gabi is learning to tolerate B Dog. Not friends. Not impressed. But definitely tolerating… which honestly is progress. 😂

And can we talk about that waistline?! Look at that shape starting to show already. Moose is feeling better, moving better, and it’s showing in his body and his confidence.

That said, we’re also learning some important things about him. Moose reacts very strongly to the loose cat in the neighborhood when he sees it outside. Because of that, we’re not convinced he’s truly cat-safe despite what we were initially told. We always appreciate learning these things early so we can be transparent and set Moose up for success in the right home.

Overall, Moose is doing great—settling in, decompressing, slimming down, and showing us both his strengths and his areas that will need the right environment. That’s exactly what foster care is for. 💙

🐾 Adoption Bio: Meet Schon 🩶
Age: 8 years old
Location: Charleston, South Carolina

Schon is a stunning, confident, and incredibly intelligent Weimaraner who has come a long way and is truly shining in foster care. She has worked hard, healed hard, and proven just how resilient and adaptable she is—and now she’s ready for the right forever home.

✨ Personality & Home Life

Schon is kennel trained and does very well when crated. In fact, she prefers it when her people are away and has never had an accident in her kennel. When left loose, she may occasionally mark or get into mischief, so crating while you’re gone is recommended.

At home, Schon fully embraces the queen-of-the-house lifestyle. She loves the couch and the bed and settles beautifully once her needs are met. She is affectionate, calm indoors, and happy to snooze nearby after activity.

She is also:
• Extremely smart (and knows it 😄)
• A known counter-surfer
• Clever enough to figure out motion-sensor trash cans
• Confident, sassy, and full of personality

🐕 Social & Public Outings

Schon has made huge strides socially and continues to impress everyone she meets.
• Does well with other dogs and prefers calm, respectful interactions
• Confident and neutral in group settings
• Has done great at supervised dog park outings with on-site “rufferees”
• Ignores rough play and chaos, choosing to mind her own business
• Comfortable around new environments and changes

She enjoys running, exploring, and observing rather than being overly pushy or reactive. Her ability to stay neutral in stimulating environments speaks volumes about her growth and stability.

🏡 Ideal Home

Schon would thrive with:
• An experienced Weimaraner or working-breed owner
• Clear structure, consistency, and boundaries
• Someone confident advocating for their dog in public and social settings
• A home that appreciates a mature, confident female with a big personality

She is wonderful with people, an excellent vet patient, and does well both at home and in work environments—she’s perfectly content curling up under a desk for a nap once settled.

❤️ The Bottom Line

Schon is:
• Smart
• Confident
• Loving
• Athletic
• Independent yet deeply bonded to her people

She is fully healed, perfectly healthy, and ready for her next chapter. She deserves a home that understands her, respects her boundaries, and celebrates her intelligence.

If you’re looking for a mature, stable, and truly special Weimaraner, Schon may be your girl 🩶🐾

Today is National Tick Tock Day — a reminder that time is always moving, whether we’re ready or not.

And if you love a dog, you know this truth deep in your bones:

Our time with them is never long enough.

The days feel endless when they’re young.
The routines become background noise.
The walks, the feedings, the cuddles — they feel like they’ll always be there.

Until one day, you realize how fast the clock has been ticking.

Dogs don’t measure time the way we do.
They don’t worry about tomorrow.
They don’t replay yesterday.
They live for right now — for the walk you almost skipped, the cuddle you almost delayed, the moment you almost rushed past.

So today, let the clock remind you:
🐾 Take the extra walk
🐾 Sit on the floor with them
🐾 Say yes to playtime
🐾 Take the pictures
🐾 Make the memories
🐾 Love them loudly

Because one day, those moments will be everything.

The clock never stops ticking — but while they’re here, make every second count. 💙🐾

😭🐾 Happy National Whiner Day — Presented by Weimaraners 🐾😭

Today is National Whiner Day, and honestly…
there is no breed more qualified to speak on this topic than the Weimaraner.

Weimaraners don’t just whine.
They communicate their suffering in a wide range of emotional tones that all somehow mean “I am deeply inconvenienced.”

Things Weimaraners commonly whine about include (but are not limited to):

🐾 You stopped petting them
🐾 You never started petting them
🐾 You moved your hand
🐾 You didn’t move your hand fast enough
🐾 Dinner is late (by 3 minutes)
🐾 Dinner already happened but they’re still hungry
🐾 You went to the bathroom without them
🐾 You went to the bathroom WITH them but closed the door
🐾 Another dog exists
🐾 A squirrel existed earlier
🐾 A toy is under the couch (even though they put it there)
🐾 You’re working instead of staring at them
🐾 You’re staring at them but not emotionally enough

And let’s not forget the silent whine — the stare.
The slow inhale.
The dramatic sigh.
The look that says, “I have been wronged and you know what you did.”

On National Whiner Day, we honor the dogs who express every thought, feeling, and mild inconvenience out loud.
Because if Weimaraners didn’t whine…
how would we ever know they were alive, attached to us, and slightly offended at all times?

Drop a pic or video of your biggest whiner below — bonus points if the whining is happening for absolutely no reason. 😆🐾

Moose update 🩶

This big guy is making huge strides and absolutely crushing it on his walks. With the right setup, Moose has figured the whole thing out—no pulling, working on a beautiful heel, and zero reactivity. Honestly? He couldn’t care less about the world around him as long as he gets to sniff. 😂

He’s already responding like a pro, too. When he starts to get a little ahead and hears “easy,” you can see the wheels turn—he drops back, gives leash slack, and keeps trucking along. Heeling on a loose leash with basically ONE finger. Good job, buddy!

Moose also made some new friends on his walk, cruising about a mile alongside two off-leash pups he had just met. His favorite activity? Trying to convince everyone to play. He even met a teeny-tiny ~5 lb schnauzer who snapped at him when Moose offered a polite play bow… and Moose jumped backwards about two feet like, “NOPE, didn’t expect that.” 😂

Bonus discovery: Moose loves water. Not surprised, but very pleased.

Overall, this hunky man is settling in beautifully—learning fast, enjoying his adventures, and proving that under all that bulk is a sweet, sensitive soul who just wants to walk, sniff, play, and be a very good boy. 💙

🎄🐾 Merry Christmas from Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue 🐾🎄

From all of us at Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue, we wish you a very Merry Christmas filled with warmth, love, and wagging tails.

This season, we are especially grateful for our incredible community — our fosters, adopters, volunteers, donors, supporters, and every single person who believes in second chances. Because of you, dogs who once knew fear now know safety, comfort, and what it means to be loved.

To the Weimaraners curled up on couches tonight, to those still waiting for their forever homes, and to the ones who have forever paw prints on our hearts — you are why we do this.

May your day be filled with joy, laughter, muddy paw prints, and the kind of love only a dog can give.

Thank you for being part of the TWR family.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays from all of us — two-legged and four-legged alike. ❤️🐾🎄

Zoey Update – A HUGE First for Our Girl 💙

Another milestone unlocked for Zoey—and this one is a big deal.

For the first time, Zoey has decided that playing with other dogs can actually be fun. Not scary. Not something she has to guard herself against. Just… fun. She’s relaxed enough, confident enough, and secure enough to engage in real play, and watching that shift happen has been incredible.

Her top pick? Marley, one of our vacation pups, who clearly got the memo and happily accepted the role of Zoey’s first official playmate. There was chasing, bouncing, tail-wagging curiosity, and zero tension—just a young dog figuring out that other dogs don’t have to be threats, they can be friends.

This might look like “just dogs playing” to some, but for Zoey, it’s a massive step forward. It means trust. It means safety. It means her world is continuing to open up in ways we hoped for and worked so hard toward.

We are so proud of her. One more first. One more layer of healing. And many more happy moments to come. 💙

🎄✨ Christmas Eve ✨🎄

Christmas Eve is a night wrapped in tradition, anticipation, and a little bit of magic. It’s the quiet before the joy, the glow before the morning, and the moment when everything feels softer and warmer.

Across homes and generations, Christmas Eve traditions may look different, but they all carry the same heart:

🎄 Gathering with loved ones — family, friends, and of course, the dogs who insist on being in the middle of everything
🕯️ Candlelight services or quiet reflection — a pause to be thankful and grounded
🎁 One special gift opened — usually pajamas, because comfort matters
🍪 Cookies and milk for Santa — carefully placed and heavily supervised by the dog
📖 Reading Christmas stories — old favorites that never get old
🎶 Christmas music softly playing — setting the mood for the night
🧦 Stockings hung with care — checked at least five times “just in case”
❄️ Early bedtimes filled with excitement — knowing tomorrow brings something special

And for many of us, Christmas Eve is also about tradition mixed with love — honoring where we came from, holding space for those we miss, and appreciating the people (and pets) who make our lives full.

May your Christmas Eve be peaceful, cozy, and filled with warmth — muddy paw prints, wagging tails, laughter, and the kind of joy that lingers long after the lights go out.

From our hearts to yours, wishing you a beautiful Christmas Eve. 🎄🐾✨
