🐾 Your Weim Could Help Raise Money for Weims in Need! 🐾

We have a fun fundraiser to share with our Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue family!

Our friends at Weimaraner Coffee Company are currently accepting entries for their Dogs of the Month program, and every winning dog helps raise money for rescue dogs right here at Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue.

Here's the really cool part:

If your dog is selected, they'll be featured on Weimaraner Coffee Company treat bags and recognized as a Fundraising Ambassador. Even better, $5 from every bag sold featuring your dog will be donated directly to Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue throughout the month.

There is no cost to enter, no fundraising commitment, and no signup required.

Just submit your dog, select Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue as the rescue you'd like to support, and share with your friends and family.

🐶 Multiple dogs are chosen every month, so there are lots of chances to be selected.

Every dollar raised helps us continue rescuing, providing medical care, fostering, and finding loving homes for Weimaraners who need a second chance.

If you've ever adopted, fostered, volunteered, donated, or simply cheered us on from afar, this is an easy and fun way to help support the dogs we all love.

📸 Entries are open now and close Monday, June 1st.

🚨 FOSTER NEEDED TO SAVE RIDGE 🚨

We need your help.

Ridge’s owner has exhausted all options trying to safely keep him in his current home. After Ridge killed several neighboring chickens, the neighbor has threatened to shoot him if he enters their property again. Time has run out, and unless we can find a foster home, we cannot bring Ridge into Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue. 💔

Ridge is a 4-year-old blue male Weimaraner located in Madison, NC. He weighs approximately 105 pounds and is described by his owner as affectionate, loyal, smart, laid-back, eager to please, and happiest when spending time with his people. He enjoys hiking, swimming, playing, and then settling down at your feet at the end of the day.

✅ Neutered
✅ Crate trained
✅ Housebroken
✅ Leash trained
✅ Knows basic commands
✅ Rides well in the car
✅ Low energy for a Weimaraner

Because of his prey drive, Ridge cannot be placed with cats, small animals, chickens, ducks, or other livestock. He is reported to do best with large dogs and should be placed in a home without small children. As with all new rescue intakes, we will require a proper decompression period and safe introductions.

Fostering saves lives. Without a foster home, we cannot step in and help this boy.

📍 Madison, NC

If you are a current approved Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue foster and can help, please contact Vicki immediately at [email protected].

Please share. The right foster home could be the difference between life and death for Ridge.

💙🐾 World MS Day 🐾💙

Today we recognize the strength, resilience, and courage of those living with Multiple Sclerosis, while also honoring the incredible dogs who provide support, stability, comfort, and companionship along the way.

For many people living with chronic illness, dogs become far more than pets.

They become:
💙 emotional support during difficult days
💙 motivation to keep moving forward
💙 steady companions through uncertainty
💙 providers of routine, comfort, and connection
💙 service dogs trained to assist with daily challenges

🐾 Dogs have an incredible ability to sense what we need without a single word being spoken.

Sometimes they provide physical assistance.
Sometimes they provide emotional healing.
And sometimes they simply lay beside someone and remind them they are not alone.

💙 In rescue, we witness the healing power of dogs every single day.

The bond between humans and dogs is extraordinary.
They help us through grief, anxiety, illness, loneliness, trauma, and some of the hardest moments life can bring.

And often, they do it quietly… simply by being there.

🐾 To those living with MS:
Your strength is seen.
Your challenges are real.
And your resilience is inspiring.

And to the dogs walking beside them every day—
thank you for the comfort, loyalty, and unconditional love you give so freely.

💙 Sometimes healing doesn’t come in words.
Sometimes it comes with four paws, quiet eyes, and a heart that refuses to leave your side.

🍪🐾 Happy National Biscuit Day 🐾🍪

Today we celebrate one of the greatest inventions known to dogkind:
✨ THE BISCUIT ✨

And if you own a Weimaraner, you already know these dogs can hear:
✔ a biscuit jar opening
✔ a treat bag crinkle
✔ peanut butter from three counties away
✔ one crumb hitting the floor from a dead sleep

But somehow still cannot hear:
❌ “leave it”
❌ “off the counter”
❌ “why are you wet?”

🐶 In honor of National Biscuit Day, here’s an easy homemade dog biscuit recipe your pups will LOVE:

🍪 Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits 🍪

Ingredients:
🥜 2 ½ cups oat flour or whole wheat flour
🎃 ½ cup pumpkin puree
🥚 1 egg
🥜 ½ cup natural peanut butter (xylitol FREE)
💧 2–4 tbsp water as needed

Instructions:
1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°
2️⃣ Mix all ingredients until dough forms
3️⃣ Roll out dough and cut shapes
4️⃣ Bake 20–25 minutes until firm
5️⃣ Cool completely before serving

Optional:
✨ add cinnamon
✨ add shredded carrots
✨ use cute cookie cutters because apparently we’re extra now 😂

🐾⚠️ Reminder:
Always check peanut butter labels carefully.
❌ NO xylitol
It is extremely toxic to dogs.

🐾💙 Meanwhile your Weimaraner reading this recipe:
👀 “Cool cool cool… but why make biscuits when I could just steal yours?” 👀

💙 PAISLEY COURTESY POST UPDATE 💙

We received an update from Paisley’s owner and wanted to share the good news!

Paisley is currently in a home on a foster-to-adopt trial, and things are off to a wonderful start. Her owner shared that the potential adopter reached out this morning and reported that they are absolutely loving her so far.

While it is still early in the process, everyone is hopeful that this sweet senior girl may have found the loving forever home she deserves.

One thing that really stood out to us was how much Paisley’s current family cares about her well-being. Her owner shared that if for any reason the placement does not work out, Paisley will be welcomed back rather than being shuffled around from home to home. Their goal is to minimize any additional stress or trauma and make sure Paisley always has a safe place to land.

Thank you to everyone who shared her courtesy post and helped get her story in front of potential adopters. We are keeping our fingers crossed that this trial turns into a forever family for this beautiful girl. 💙🐾

We will share additional updates if they become available.

Fibi Update from her Foster Parents 💙

Tonight we decided to try a little separation anxiety test with Miss Fibi after our neighbors invited us next door for a bit.

We figured… what the heck. If she completely loses it, we can literally walk right back home 😂

So we got her set up:
✔️ In the crate
✔️ Door closed
✔️ Herbs and a stuffed Kong provided for emotional support
✔️ Two foster parents obsessively checking the camera every five minutes

At first she definitely voiced her opinions about being abandoned forever. There was some crying and complaining, but after probably 30ish minutes… she finally laid down and stayed down.

Honestly, we were super proud of her.

We keep joking that having this indoor camera is both a blessing and a curse because once you leave the house you can’t stop checking it 😂 The previous homeowners installed it, and tonight we accidentally discovered it also has SOUND.

Which immediately changed the evening from:
“Let’s casually check on Fibi”
to
“If we hear her spiraling into a full panic attack, we are sprinting home immediately.”

But thankfully after a little whining and dramatic sadness, she eventually just kind of gave up and settled herself.

That may sound small, but for a velcro Weimaraner who has become incredibly attached to people, this is actually really encouraging progress. She’s slowly learning that her humans come back and that being alone doesn’t mean the world is ending.

Baby steps… but really good one

🍔🐾 Happy International Hamburger Day 🐾🍔

Or as Weimaraners know it:
✨ National Unattended Food Acquisition Day ✨

Some people think Memorial Day weekend cookouts are about family, friends, and grilling out.

Your Weimaraner thinks it’s an all-you-can-steal buffet where the rules are made up and hamburgers belong to everyone.

Current Weimaraner BBQ statistics show:
✔ 97% believe all burgers within reach are community property
✔ 82% are actively supervising the grill
✔ 100% have never eaten a meal in their entire life according to their behavior

Typical Memorial Day Weimaraner activities include:
👀 tracking every plate leaving the grill
👀 aggressively volunteering as quality control
👀 staring directly into your soul while you eat
👀 positioning themselves under the picnic table like furry land sharks

And somehow every owner says the exact same thing:
✨ “I turned around for TWO SECONDS.” ✨

That’s all it takes.

One brief lapse in judgment and suddenly:
❌ four hamburger patties are missing
❌ the hotdog buns have vanished
❌ someone’s child is crying because “the grey dog took my cheeseburger”

Bonus points if your Weim:
✔ stole food while maintaining eye contact
✔ swallowed the evidence whole
✔ acted deeply offended when accused
✔ immediately returned to the grill for a second attempt

Honestly at this point, Weimaraners don’t attend cookouts…
they conduct tactical meat extraction operations. 😂

Medical Foster Gabi Update 💜

Our sweet girl Gabi is staying overnight at the vet hospital tonight and is scheduled for her MRI in the morning. Unfortunately the specialty hospital had multiple emergencies come in today, which backed everything up, so her imaging had to be pushed until tomorrow.

As many of you know, Gabi has a complicated medical history involving spinal stenosis and worsening neurological symptoms. The MRI will hopefully help give us more answers about what is happening and what options we have moving forward.

Next steps will be discussed once the MRI results are back, but please know this: we are fully committed to Gabi’s care and making whatever decisions are necessary to give her the best quality of life possible. No matter what those answers are, she will not face them alone.

Today we placed a $4,000 deposit for her MRI and continued care. If anyone would like to help support sweet Gabi and her ongoing medical expenses, donations can be made here:

https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/donate-to-change-lives-1816

Please keep little Gabi, her amazing foster family, and everyone involved in her care in your thoughts and prayers tonight. She is such a special little girl and deeply loved by so many. 💜

Update on sweet JoJo ❤️

Miss Jolene is officially through her LAST heartworm injection and is honestly being such a good patient through all of this. We are so proud of her.

Unfortunately though, because apparently this poor girl has decided she has not suffered enough lately, she has ALSO decided now would be a fantastic time to go into heat. 😅

So currently we are juggling:
• Heartworm treatment recovery
• Prednisone peeing every five seconds
• Severe anxiety
• Hormones from being in heat
• And FIVE foster brothers she suddenly no longer sees as “brothers” 😂

Needless to say… it has been chaos.

Right now JoJo is on sedation medications and pain medications to help keep her calm and quiet during recovery because the LAST thing we want is increased activity or stress causing complications while the heartworms are dying off. Keeping these dogs calm during treatment is absolutely critical.

Unfortunately JoJo’s current opinion is that she should either:
A) Be glued directly to the humans at all times
OR
B) Be dramatically screaming because she cannot be with the boys she suddenly thinks are the love of her life. 🙄😂

So foster mom Vicki is currently surviving on caffeine, prayers, and whatever sanity she still has left at this point.

Please keep sweet JoJo and her exhausted foster mom in your thoughts over the next few weeks. This poor girl needs all the help she can get right now while her body, hormones, anxiety, and heartworm recovery are all trying to fight each other at the same time.

But through all of it, she is still one of the sweetest girls imaginable and we are so proud of how far she has already come. ❤️

🌞🐾 Sun Screen Protection Day 🐾🌞

Summer is almost here, which means it’s time to talk about something many people don’t realize:

👉 Dogs can get sunburned too.

And breeds like Weimaraners—with short coats, lighter skin, pink noses, and thin fur coverage—can be especially sensitive to heat and sun exposure.

🌞🐶 Summer safety isn’t just about comfort.
It’s about preventing:
🔥 overheating
🔥 burned paw pads
🔥 dehydration
🔥 heat stroke
🔥 sunburns on noses, ears, and bellies

🐾💙 Important summer safety tips:

✔ Avoid hot pavement
If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

✔ Limit peak heat activity
Early morning and evening walks are safest.

✔ Provide shade & water at all times
Especially during outdoor events, hikes, and lake days.

✔ Watch for overheating signs:
⚠️ excessive panting
⚠️ drooling
⚠️ weakness
⚠️ vomiting
⚠️ disorientation

Heat stroke can become an emergency VERY quickly.

🌞🐾 Yes—dogs can wear sunscreen too.
But ONLY pet-safe sunscreen.

❌ Avoid human sunscreens containing zinc oxide or toxic ingredients.
✔ Focus on sensitive areas like:

* noses
* ear tips
* bellies
* lightly pigmented skin

🌊 And don’t forget water safety:
🐾 not all dogs are strong swimmers
🐾 fatigue happens quickly in heat
🐾 life jackets are smart for boating and deep water adventures

🐶 Weims may look athletic enough to survive the apocalypse…
but many of them will still:
😂 overheat while refusing to stop playing
😂 ignore exhaustion completely
😂 insist on laying directly in the hottest patch of sunlight available

So unfortunately it’s our job to make smart decisions for them. 😂

🐾💙 Safe dogs enjoy summer longer.
Protect the paws. Protect the noses. Protect the zoom
