Why We Do It

You have likely asked yourself the question, β€œIs my dog lonely when I go to work?” You must also worry about the extent of your pup’s loneliness. Today, we often leave pets at home alone while we work 9-5 jobs. Many dogs have free rome of the home, but many are confined to a kennel or room.

We have to wonder, are a few hours with our dogs worth their confinement for 8+ hours? Are we being ethical paw parents?

We all would like to do what is best for our pets, but do we know what is best? The answer is becoming clearer as research is done.

Our dogs feel social pain (loneliness) as an instinctual survival mechanism.* Pain is β€œnature’s way of helping [animals survive]”.* For a long time, being part of the pack would increase a canine’s chances of survival.* So, it makes sense that our canine friends still feel pain when left alone.
