Our team at Monon Veterinary Clinic deserves all the appreciation this week and every week! 🩺🐶🐱

We are so thankful for each and every one of our employees and the hard work, dedication, compassion, and love they pour into caring for our patients every single day. Veterinary medicine takes a special kind of heart, and we are incredibly lucky to have a team that shows up, works hard, and puts our patients first. 💙

Today, we’re taking some time to give back to the people who give so much to our clinic! We’ll be heading out for a staff appreciation outing to celebrate our amazing team and thank them for everything they do. 🎉

📚Educational post of the week!📚

Today we would like to discuss seasonal allergies.

Some of our furry friends experience environmental allergies year round. Right now, we are seeing an influx of allergy cases due to harvest season. Let's discuss what to look out for, what to do next, and how to manage this.

What to look out for?: You may see increased licking, chewing, itching, scratching, rubbing, or head shaking. You may also notice red/irritated skin, stinky skin and ears, watery eyes, sneezing, or even loss of fur.

What to do next?: Give us a call to schedule an appointment if you notice any of the above signs. Even if it seems like it isn't that bad, it is always best to get ahead of things.

How to manage seasonal allergies?: If there is an active infection, we will send you home with medications that we prepare before you leave your appointment. There are a few different oral options on the market, and even an injection option. If your pet is one that may need long term allergy management, we will be sure to tell you at the visit.

Pets can experience anywhere from one to all of the symptoms we have discussed. This means everyones allergy care plan is personalized to them specifically based on severity of symptoms, size of pet, or even the time of the year.

Educational post of the week!

Last week was busy. We totally forgot to post.

Today we are discussing how boarding can be beneficial to your pet.

Boarding your dog can be a good outlet for them. They can release some of that extra energy that they don't know what to do with at home. They can learn appropriate ways to play and exist around other dogs. They become better socialized when they get to leave the house. And, most importantly, you get the peace of mind of knowing they are safe while you are busy.

If your dog cannot play with other dogs, that's okay. They can play with us! Each dog gets their own run, their own outdoor patio, and their own turn in the shared yard if they prefer to be by themselves.

Ram lamb update! 🐏
This little guy is doing great. He is now coming up on 2 weeks old and is officially out with his herd as of yesterday. He is continuing to eat well and gaining weight amazingly. His caretaker is still bottle feeding him multiple times a day while he spends all of his time with the rest of the sheep.

An update on the ram lamb. He was born with at least 2 serious congenital defects. He has a parrot mouth and a complete cleft palate. For those who are not familiar, when any animal has a cleft palate, the hard palate (roof of mouth) is missing, allowing connection of the oral and nasal cavities. This makes creating the proper suction for nursing practically impossible.

In many animals, this finding is a death sentence. However, many livestock species can survive. Especially when they have help. Wabi sabi aka Sunny has been soaking it up, and, thus far, he’s doing amazingly well.
