Minnie’s First Day! 🐾

Minnie is a sweet but very nervy girl who joined us today and will be working with Trainer Ethan on confidence building, resource guarding around other dogs, and leash manners.

For dogs like Minnie, confidence is the foundation. When a dog feels uncertain about the world, behaviors like guarding resources, pulling on leash, or reacting to their environment are often symptoms—not the root cause.

Using our pyramid:
Emotions → Motivation → Clarity → Behavior → Reliability

Ethan will focus first on helping Minnie feel safe, successful, and understood. As her confidence grows, we’ll build clear communication, better decision-making around other dogs, and the leash skills she needs to confidently navigate the world around her.

It’s only Day 1, but we’re excited to watch Minnie discover that she’s capable of more than she thinks. ❤️🐾

🎓 Prim went home today!

This young Malinois came to us to work on impulse control, emotional regulation, leash reactivity, and loose leash walking in public.

Like many young working dogs, Prim had plenty of drive and enthusiasm. The challenge wasn’t creating energy—it was helping her learn when to apply it and when to settle into a calmer state of mind.

Over the course of her training, Prim learned how to make better decisions around distractions, remain more neutral in public environments, and develop the self-control needed to succeed both at home and out in the real world.

At NSFK9, we build training through our pyramid:

Emotions → Motivation → Clarity → Behavior → Reliability

By focusing on how a dog feels first, we can create motivation, establish clear communication, build better behaviors, and ultimately create reliability that lasts.

Trainer Maddie did an amazing job helping Prim transform from a high-energy young dog into a dog with more confidence, clarity, and self-control while still keeping the fun personality that makes Prim, Prim.

We’re incredibly proud of her progress and excited to watch her continue to grow with her family.

Great work, Prim. And great work, Maddie! 👏🐾

🎶 “You can catch me all around the world…” 🎶

This map is pretty surreal.

What you’re seeing is the combined impact of both North Star Family K-9 and K9SF before our merger in October 2025. Long before we became one company, both organizations were helping dogs and families build better lives together.

Every dot represents a dog, a family, and a story. From local neighborhoods to families traveling across the country, we’re humbled by the trust that’s been placed in us over the years.

The timing is especially fitting as we recently welcomed a veterinary referral from Indiana, with that dog joining us later this month.

As Pitbull says, “I don’t play football, but I’ve touched down around the world.” 🌎🐾

We’re not quite Mr. Worldwide—but seeing this map reminds us just how far this journey has reached.

🎓 Happy Graduation, Darby! 🎓

What started as a foster opportunity turned into a forever home, and we couldn’t be happier for Darby and her family.

When Darby arrived, we focused on building confidence, reducing anxiety, improving her reactions around other dogs, and teaching her how to find calm in the middle of excitement and uncertainty. Through structure, clear communication, and consistent practice, Darby learned that the world isn’t something she needs to worry about.

At North Star Family K-9, our training follows our Canine Pyramid of Learning:

Emotion → Motivation → Clarity → Behavior → Reliability

By addressing how a dog feels first, we’re able to create lasting behavior change that extends far beyond training sessions.

Darby was an absolute joy to work with. Sweet, willing, and full of personality, she made friends everywhere she went. We’re incredibly excited to watch her next chapter unfold with the family who fell in love with her enough to make her a permanent member of the pack.
