We had to make a hard call last night asking our vet to come help us put our boy down today. Over the last week he became very lame and he was getting to a point that he could barely hold himself up. I was thinking about it today. Better to say goodbye a year early rather than a day late. So grateful it was not an emergency and that our vet was able to make adjustments so that she could be there for us.

We rescued him 3 years ago from starving to death in a pasture due to having expired teeth. He was a stallion, so he was with us for life. The vets determined he was in his 30s and we had no idea that he was going to be with us for one month, let alone 3 years! He became somewhat of a mascot here. He was very strong and well built. He was small but very mighty. In the 3 years we had him, we never trimmed his hind feet and you would never know it, they looked better than most that are done regularly!

He occasionally had a mild limp and a sore back, so we never rode him. Mark took him under his wing and he was turned out daily, after taking a short walk into the desert to roll. He always picked the rockiest, stickeryiest spots πŸ€ͺ He just loved his life, looking over his herd here at Serenity. Last fall, we decided to breed him to our mare Windsong, and she took! So although we said our goodbyes today, we are even more so anxiously awaiting the arrival of his foal in late September.

Rest in peace ol Hendi. It was a pleasure and an honor serving you. Thank you for your beautiful singing voice, you will be terribly terribly missed ❀️

Some pictures from Wulff, 10 yr old Friesian I helped place in a new home a few months ago. I just adore hearing success in helping rehome horses. It's not always an easy decision to rehome horses. Sometimes it's a move, sometimes it's not a good match, sometimes a financial change.

I'm always a big advocate of rehoming, rather than letting a horse sit for years in the wrong situation. Yes finding the right home is imperative to not perpetuate an issue, honesty and the right home is number one. I have seen many people hold onto a horse due to a dream, a promise, or fear of failure, when there may be a better home for the horse they have, and a better horse for them.

Wulff now lives in a big pasture and gets to play on the beach! I'm so happy for both of them. Wishing the best for their continued success 😊

We have a special opportunity!! A local trainer, Jasmine Odell, located in North Reno, is going to come down for a day of private lessons on June 7. If you are looking to advance your horsemanship especially in relation to Ranch riding, English or Western dressage, rail pleasure, or reining. Please lmk if you're interested in a session with her. Below is her bio.

My name is Jasmine Odell, I am a full time professional trainer who specializes in both creating and finishing performance/show horses along running a successful C**t starting program.

*What do I specialize in?

Although I have a background, knowledge, experience, and success in English disciplines (Dressage, Hunter PL, Jumping etc.) my training program mainly tailors to Western stock horse performance (Western Pleasure, Ranch Riding, Reining) because that is what I prefer as a trainer and the direction of my personal show horses (Reiners).

During my years learning, training, and showing, I have become decorated at a regional level along with a national level. My biggest show background is in Arabians and stock horses (AQHA, APHA, ApHC), along with developing and or campaigning SEVERAL other breeds as well, I have successfully shown and trained in 8 different disciplines including receiving a Gold Medal through USEF.

My goal as a trainer is to take a personal approach to any horse and rider to give them the maximum amount of success and fun whether they are in the show pen or just out hitting the trails.

Been really loving these afternoon clouds. We made it in about 20-30 minutes before a major rain and hail storm πŸ˜€

Ilsa's second ride under saddle. Here we were working on finding the rail. She was avoiding the gate, interestingly enough lol, so I worked this trot and added pressure along the rail until she ultimately found relaxation on the side she was avoiding. This was also starting to help her to start recognizing when my seat was active vs. quiet.
