CHIPS UPDATE: No one really enjoys getting their medication, least of all Chips. He HATES it. He kicks, whips, thrashes, and scratches through his 2x/day lactulose and 1x daily calcium glubionate. But we’ve been consistent and we’ve been learning new techniques to make things quicker and smoother, and we’re hoping the persistence pays off and we start seeing some results soon!

We are p**ping LOTS so that sand should be moving out, but we’re still waiting for his distended gut to calm down and let him get back to eating on his own!!

Wish this little guy luck!! We are still accepting donations to help cover his pricey vet bills 💚

Mistakes were made 🫪 To absolutely no blame of his own, Bane mistook me for a rat today.

For those of you who don’t know, Bane here is our own personal (Sam & Matt’s) foster fail from a previous organization we fostered with! His kindness, curiosity, and amazingly sweet personality was a huge driving factor in us starting H**p Habitat! He’s so sweet, he pushed us to help out more little guys in his shoes.

I’ve never taken a full on feeding response bite from a ball python, but I always said that if I did, I wanted it to be from this sweet little guy. I guess dreams do come true. Thank you Bane 💚

Meet Carnita the Asian box turtle (Cuora amboinensis)! We’ve had her for 9 months now and she’s still looking for her forever home!! 🐢💚🐢

Box turtles are very unique turtles with a very special adaptation, and Cuora amboinensis is one of the most unique of the box turtles! So what is a box turtle?

A box turtle is a turtle with a hinged plastron that allows them to close entirely for protection. In addition to this, they tend to be somewhere in between a tortoise and an aquatic turtle in many aspects of their care and lifestyle. They are omnivorous and they live mostly on land, but still do enjoy a bit of water.

And Asian box turtles (Cuora amboinensis) are one of the MOST aquatic of all box turtles. Unlike her North American cousins, Carnita LOVES the water and does best in a mostly aquatic habitat (around 25/75). She loves shrimp treats and does best eating in the water (she’s a little awkward hunting on land). She still loves her veggies, basking on a log, or walking around on land as if she was a tortoise. But the majority of the time we see her, she is swimming around in her pond. In addition to this she lives in a very warm and humid environment and does not hibernate. So no letting temps drop in the winter! She is a little shy, but food never fails to get her out of her shell.

If you think she sounds interesting, fill out an adoption application today!! 💚

BOB IS READY FOR ADOPTION! He spent months fighting his respiratory infection and healing from some pretty nasty stuck shed on his hands, but he’s doing GREAT! He is missing some toes and will continue healing over the next couple months, but we know he’s ready to meet his forever family.

Bob has ATTITUDE! He can be very sweet and personable, but he can also be a complete diva. If he doesn’t want to be held, he will p**p on you. If you’re a veterinarian, he will try to bite you. He can be pretty elusive at times, but also likes to bask and enjoys foraging for food. He loves bananas and quail eggs, and he LOVES slinking around a tank with lots of tunnels and hides to burrow in.

Because he’s been through so much, we do require that he goes to a more experienced home. 💚 If you’re interested, submit an adoption application today!

First off, thank you everyone for supporting Chips!

After not eating for 5 weeks, Chips recently returned to the vet for radiographs. And we found… Chips is full of sand! This lead to a case of ileus and a bunch of food and gas building up in his stomach. One e***a later and a prescription for lactulose, Chips p**ped! And oh boy was it SANDY.

So are we in the clear now? Unfortunately no, he is still not eating. But his guts are distended and full of residual gas. And probably some more sand as well. But we’re helping to support him with the lactulose, calcium glubionate, daily soaks, and a little extra TLC. Fingers crossed we eat soon. 🤞

We haven’t quite fundraised enough for all of his vet bills, so if you’d like to continue supporting Chips and his journey, every little bit helps! Consider $5 to help motivate this little dude to eat his first meal with us!! 🪳

Cheese is available for adoption!! 🧀 Cheese is sweet, active, very curious, and a GREAT eater! Cheese is a little extra head shy and does not appreciate sudden quick movements, so probably not the snake for a house with kids. But look at those eyes… 🥹 he’s such a handsome fella and we’re very excited for him to find his forever home!
