Today marks two weeks with The Beags. ❤ Somehow it feels both like it's been the blink of an eye and 84 years. Either way, we love having them and are just so incredibly honored to play a small part in the take down of animal research and experimentation.
A little update on each Beag:
Like his namesake, Scotty Gilbertson, Scotty is the bravest of his bunch. His sweet and sassy personality is beginning to shine through. He is celebrating his newfound freedom by zooming as fast as his little legs can go, and then curling up in his favorite cozy corner.
Fritz is the brave boy of his crew. He enjoys being outside and has started cuddling on the couch. He loves playing with toys, snoozing with his foster brothers, and asking for uppies. He needs to be carried from point A to point B because the world is scary, but he gets braver every day.
Elmer has come SO far (yet still has miles to go). He spent the first five days crammed in a three inch space underneath a raised bed. He would. not. move. He slowly started eating if food was tossed under the bed to him, and now he loves playing with Fritz. He likes being pet, but only if the circumstances are exactly perfect.
Alfie is struggling. He remains shut down. He spends his days hiding under the bed in his room and only comes out when the coast is clear of humans. It's heart wrenching to see, but his foster remains patient, and we know he'll be ok.
Owen is wary of humans, but he loves to snuggle with his foster brothers and revel in the newfound joy of toys! Owen is becoming more curious, playful, and charming each day.
Elliott has blossomed from painfully overstimulated wild child into the sweetest, most gentle and sensitive soul. He is learning to seek out comfort and affection from his safe people and to play and explore with his foster brothers.
These boys are so special to us. We are so proud of how brave they are and can't wait to see who they become. Thank you to everyone who has donated, sent supplies, shared our posts, and sent words of encouragement.
The Beags are not yet ready for adoption. They'll be neutered later this week and still need to be boostered. They need to learn "normal dog" things, like walking on a leash and not spending all day hiding under a bed. 🫠 We go at their pace, and, while we know they will certainly be a work in progress upon adoption, we need to get to know them better before we can truly understand where they'll thrive.
