𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 💭💤🐾

Do you wonder how many pups steal the covers at night? According to the American Kennel Club, about 𝟰𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀. A majority of those in that same survey stated that their pet did not disturb their sleep but actually helped 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 their sleep by providing warmth, comfort, and relaxation.

Sleeping with your furry companion can lessen anxiety for 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 the pet and the human. While it isn’t for everybody, a lot of people find it too hard to resist.

The survey found another 𝟮𝟬% 𝘀𝗻𝗼𝗼𝘇𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝟭𝟳% 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗱, and the rest...well, they get creative!

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 💭🐎💫

Newborn foals come into the world with something magical, tiny “𝗳𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀.” These soft keratin coverings protect the mare from the foal’s fully formed hooves during pregnancy and birth. Within 24–48 hours, they dry up and fall away as the foal begins to stand and explore. Beneath the slippers foals are born with fully formed hooves. The softness of the eponychium is 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 during pregnancy and birth for the health of the mare as it acts as a protective layer between the foal’s hooves and the mare’s uterus and birth canal.

It’s one of nature’s most thoughtful designs, shared by other hoofed animals like cattle, sheep, and antelopes. A small detail with a big purpose. 🪄

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 🐾🙀💭

Have you ever seen or owned a cat that had a belly that hangs down a little bit?

While some may see this and think that the kitty is overweight, even the most fit and healthy cats can have this trait called a 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵; a loose flap of skin, fat, and fur that runs along a cat’s underside, especially near the back legs. Even very lean, athletic cats have this, and it serves a bigger genetic purpose. This pouch can protect a cat’s vital organs during fights or rough activities. At Care we have even seen it protect a cat from a foreign object penetrating their abdomen.

This protective body part develops as a cat ages and is unique to each cat, some having larger or smaller pouches. It is 𝘯𝘰𝘵 an indicator of your cat being overweight as many may think.🐈

Big cats like lions and tigers have primordial pouches too, it’s not just a house‑cat thing.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 💭👂🔊

Ever wonder how your dog knows someone’s at the door 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 they even knock?

Dogs hear a much wider range of sounds than humans, especially between 𝟯,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟮,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗛𝘇, where their ears are incredibly sensitive. They can even detect high‑frequency noises above 𝟭𝟮,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗛𝘇 that we can’t hear at all.

This super‑hearing comes from their wolf ancestors, who relied on it to track prey like small rodents.

So when your dog reacts to footsteps, a car door, or keys jingling outside, they’re not predicting the future — they’re just hearing things long before we can.

And yes… that’s also why thunder and vacuums feel 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙 and can 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙢 them!

So, when your pup knows someone’s at the door before you do, they’re not psychic… they just heard something their human could not detect! 🐶🐾

Our very own Breeanna has been awarded the 2026 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 from the 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑭𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏’𝒔 𝑪𝒍𝒖𝒃𝒔 - 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒏, and we couldn’t be more excited and prouder of her. In addition to being the clinic's Lead Client Care Coordinator, she is a devoted wife, mom, and volunteer for numerous Millington events and clubs.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 🐴💬✨

A horse’s tail is far more than a fly swatter or a mood indicator. It’s actually an extension of the spine — beginning all the way up near the horse’s head and running down through the tailbone. Because of this, the tail contains a network of nerve endings that contribute to balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. Those nerves also help horses detect subtle changes in temperature, pressure, and touch.

What looks like a simple, elegant plume is actually a finely tuned sensory tool.

Even the most beautiful features often carry a deeper purpose. 🐎

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆🐈💭🌟

Have you ever gotten a kiss from your feline friend and wondered why their tongue is so rough? A cat’s tongue is covered in tiny little spines that are called “papillae.” These small hook-like spines are made from keratin. This is the same material that makes up human hair and nails as well as a horse’s hooves. These papillae serve many purposes through the cat’s whole life:

𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴: As you likely already know, cats spend 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 of time grooming themselves. Their tongue acts as a very effective comb that removes knots and snarls and smooths the fur. It also allows them to remain scent-free to disguise themselves from prey 👅

𝗘𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: While not as necessary in domesticated house cats, the roughness of a cat’s tongue allows them to lick bones clean on their prey 🐁

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Due to the shape of their mouth, a cat cannot form a suction to drink like humans can. When a cat dips its tongue into the water tension is formed thanks to the papillae which allow the cat to draw up a small amount of water into their mouth to drink 💧

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: When a cat grooms themselves, they leave saliva in their fur, as it evaporates it acts in a very similar fashion to human-sweat and keeps the cat cool as temperatures rise 🌡🔥
