James and I were lucky to come into Lexington when Henry White was still coming to meetings of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers Club.
We need more voices like James and Henry heard today.

Mrs. Backer was a delight when we worked for her, whether selling her mare Divine Dixie for $2 million at FTK, or visiting Franklin Smith’s barns during the Elloree trials.

She was so modest I never knew how much she accomplished in the rest of her days.

Goodbye dear lady.

We were lucky to know Mark during his Street Sense days, nice to see he's back.

Paulick Report

Two decades after Street Sense gave him the ride of a lifetime, Mark Cutler walked away from galloping horses. When he returned four years later, Burnham Square was waiting.

He bought one of the first yearlings Lantern Hill ever raised, and was a longtime supporter of our yearlings--not to mention an inspiration to all who wanted to work with horses.

A couple of months ago, we spent an afternoon at Keeneland with Brie Haggard, who keeps our website running, her daughter Ana, and Annise Montplaisir and Mary-Courtney Combs from Amplify Horse Racing. Ana and the Amplify team hit it off, and that led to her helping at their booth during this year’s Breyerfest.

We like sharing this because it’s a good reminder of how small the horse world is. A day at the races in April turns into a volunteer shift in July, and somewhere in between, another person finds her way a little deeper into this industry. That’s worth passing along.

Here’s Ana in her own words:
