“Third-party lab tested.”

You see that phrase everywhere in the CBD industry.

But there’s a better question to ask:

Tested for what?

Just CBD and THC?

In this video, we break down a real Certificate of Analysis from one of our full-spectrum h**p products.

The laboratory measured 14 different cannabinoids in the product:

CBC
CBCA
CBD
CBDA
CBDV
CBDVA
CBG
CBGA
CBL
CBN
CBT
THC
THCA
THCV

That’s a perfect example of something we’ve been teaching for years:

CBD-dominant does not mean CBD-only.

We also explain why CBD and CBDA are reported separately and why Total CBD is commonly calculated using:

Total CBD = CBD + (CBDA × 0.877)

But the bigger lesson is this:

A COA is a useful tool.

It can show you what was measured in the sample that was tested.

But it does not automatically tell you everything about the product or the company standing behind it.

Where did the h**p come from?

How was it grown?

How was it extracted?

Who manufactured the product?

How consistent is the company from batch to batch?

Do they understand the h**p they’re working with?

And will they still be there when you have a question?

Anyone can say:

“Lab tested.”

Trust takes longer to build.

DOES THE H**P PLANT ACTUALLY MAKE CBD?

Yes, but there’s an important part of the chemistry most consumers never hear about.

CBD-dominant h**p primarily biosynthesizes:

CBDA — cannabidiolic acid.

One simplified pathway looks like this:

CBGA → CBDA → CBD

CBDA can undergo a chemical process called decarboxylation through heat, time and processing.

During that process, CBDA loses carbon dioxide and becomes CBD.

But CBDA and CBD are not the same molecule.

They are different cannabinoids with different molecular structures.

This is also why a full-spectrum h**p extract may contain both CBD and measurable CBDA.

Understanding the plant makes it much easier to understand what is actually in a CBD product.

Does Indica really make you sleepy… while Sativa gives you energy? 🌿⚖️

Most people in the cannabis world have heard it:

☀️ Sativa for daytime.
🌙 Indica for nighttime.
⚖️ Hybrid somewhere in between.

But have you ever stopped to ask why?

The terms Indica and Sativa originally came from botany — describing differences in cannabis plants, including their physical characteristics and geographic origins.

They weren’t created to tell people how they were supposed to feel.

So where did the “Indica makes you sleepy” reputation come from?

In this episode of H**p Myth Court, we look at an interesting piece of cannabis chemistry that may help explain part of the story.

Cannabis chemistry continues to change after harvest. THCA can convert to THC, and as THC ages — especially with exposure to time, oxygen, light and heat — some of it can degrade and oxidize into CBN, or cannabinol.

That raises a fascinating historical question:

Could cannabis grown in India, then dried, stored and transported long distances, have arrived with a different chemical profile than when it was first harvested — helping reinforce the reputation that “Indica” was more relaxing or sleepy?

It’s a scientifically plausible piece of the story, although we don’t have historical evidence proving it was the single origin of the belief.

And that’s what H**p Myth Court is about.

Cannabis Science vs. Cannabis Law

One of the biggest sources of confusion in cannabis isn't the plant...

It's the terminology.

The words "h**p" and "ma*****na" are often used as if they describe two completely different plants.

From a scientific perspective, it's more accurate to look at the plant's genetics and chemistry.

A cannabis plant's DNA determines which cannabinoid-producing enzymes it expresses. Those genetics influence whether the plant primarily produces CBDA or THCA in its trichomes.

Both types of cannabis begin by producing cannabinoids in their acidic forms:

🌿 CBDA → CBD (when heated)

🌿 THCA → THC (when heated)

The legal definition of h**p and ma*****na is based on the amount of delta-9 THC in the plant.

The scientific understanding focuses on the plant's genetics, enzymes, and cannabinoid chemistry.

These are two different ways of classifying cannabis.

Indica vs. Sativa: What Does Science Actually Tell Us?

One of the most common beliefs in cannabis is:

🌿 Sativa = uplifting

🌿 Indica = relaxing

The problem?

Modern cannabis science shows that these labels don't reliably predict how a particular product will affect an individual.

So what do Indica and Sativa actually describe?

Primarily, they're botanical growth characteristics.

Cannabis sativa

✔ Taller plants
✔ Longer internodes
✔ Narrower leaves
✔ Typically a lighter shade of green

Cannabis indica

✔ Shorter plants
✔ Bushier growth
✔ Broader leaves
✔ Often a darker shade of green

These are physical characteristics, not guarantees of a specific experience.

Here's something that surprises many people:

Both Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica can produce plants that are rich in CBDA or THCA. They can also produce a wide range of terpene profiles.

In other words...

The plant's genetics, cannabinoid profile, terpene profile, and overall chemistry tell you far more than whether someone labeled it "indica" or "sativa."

As our understanding of cannabis has evolved, many growers, breeders, and researchers have shifted away from relying on those traditional labels alone.

Most people think the whole h**p plant contains CBD.

It doesn't.

The sticky resin that contains cannabinoids is concentrated in tiny structures called trichomes found primarily on the h**p bloom.

Think of trichomes as the plant's tiny resin factories.

Inside those microscopic structures, the plant naturally produces cannabinoids, terpenes, and aromatic compounds.

🌿 H**p and Ma*****na Are Both Cannabis, But They're Not The Same

Most people hear the word cannabis and assume every cannabis plant is the same.

The reality is much more interesting.

Both h**p and ma*****na belong to the cannabis family, but they have been cultivated for very different cannabinoid profiles.

🌱 H**p is typically bred to be rich in CBDa (the natural precursor to CBD) and low in THCa.

🌿 Ma*****na is typically bred to be rich in THCa (the natural precursor to THC).

Think of it like this:

Men and women are both human, but each tends to have different dominant hormone profiles.

Likewise, h**p and ma*****na are both cannabis, but they are commonly cultivated to express very different dominant cannabinoids.

This distinction is one reason h**p became the foundation of modern full-spectrum CBD products.

Understanding where CBD comes from is one of the first steps toward becoming a more informed consumer.

Kentucky h**p isn't just a crop, it’s a story of American survival. 🌿🇺🇸

In 1775, the first seeds were planted in our Bluegrass soil. By 1851, it was so trusted that h**p extract was a standard wellness staple in every local pharmacy. 🏥

But the road wasn't easy. The Ma*****na Tax Act of 1937 nearly destroyed the industry with red tape, leading to its removal from pharmacies in 1942.

Yet, when the nation was in crisis, they called on Kentucky. In 1944, 4-H kids across the state stepped up to grow h**p for the 1945 war effort.

Today, we aren’t playing political games. We are bringing that 250-year-old legacy home to you.
