Happy HOWLween from your favorite veterinarian staff! We hope everyone has a SAFE and wonderful weekend filled with candy, giggles and maybe some spooky scaries! 👻
‼️REMEMBER to keep any and all candy away from your pets, keep them in a safe and calm environment while kids are out on the hunt for candy and keep your pets safe while dressing them up for Halloween! (Not too tight costumes but also not too loose and don’t leave them on too long. Watch pieces that can be chewed up/swallowed and light up mechanisms are tucked away safely) 🚨

It’s Friday! The week has come to an end and we close out celebrating Veterinary Technician week! 💕 We had so much fun celebrating our technicians and assistants! They deserve a fun week, some special lunches and to know how much we all appreciate them! But just because tech week is over, doesn’t mean that our job stops!
We will continue to bring the best to veterinary medicine, give the best hugs to your furry friends and keep the tails wagging all year round! We appreciated your kind words and support to our staff! We wouldn’t be here without our patients and clients!

This week is all about our technicians but we combine our veterinary assistants into the celebration as well because they also deserve the love! We are so proud of our assistants! They bring so much love and support to our patients and our team here at Animal Medical Center!

- What’s the most rewarding part of being a veterinary assistant?
Honestly, just being in the clinic, and building a relationship with our clients & patients. I absolutely love to be around dogs and cats all day long and experience all the veterinary field has to offer! A work day at Animal Medical Center is a dream and I’m thankful for it! 🥰

- How long have you been in the veterinary field and assisting? 💕
I’ve been working in the field since 2015! I got my assistant certification in high school in 2012. But I started in kennels for my first job and climbed the ladder over the years! Becoming a Technician is my next step in my career! 🐾

- What’s something you wish more people knew about veterinary assistants? ☺️
They’re VERY knowledgeable! We stand with our technicians and doctors all day and we learn so much with every case! We’re normally the first person you meet in the room and we love every second of supporting you and your patients!

- What is your favorite breed of dog or cat and why?
BULLDOGS! I love a wrinkly, chubby (but healthy) and snorty bulldog! They are so funny and goofy! I’ve been around them since I was a child so naturally, they win in my book! 🐶

- What’s one skill you’ve learned that you’re especially proud of?
Basically everything over the past 11 years! Spending time in the clinic has brought me so much knowledge & confidence! I especially love anything phlebotomy. Running labs and placing IV catheters is a favorite of mine! 💉

- What’s the most rewarding part of being a veterinary assistant?
Seeing patient's come back to the clinic happier and healthier ❤️

- How long have you been in the veterinary field and assisting?
I've been in the field since the height of the pandemic in 2020. I first learned how to be a vet assistant through curbside!

- What’s something you wish more people knew about veterinary assistants?
That vet assistants are some of the strongest people I've met 💪

- What is your favorite breed of dog or cat and why?
It's hard for me to pick between labs and huskies because I love them both. They're incredibly loving and have so much personality! 🐶🐺

- What’s one skill you’ve learned that you’re especially proud of?
I'm proud of how far I've come with my venipuncture skills. I still have a ways to go but I was able to draw blood from the tiny marginal ear vein of a rabbit 🐰 💉

What’s the most rewarding part of being a veterinary assistant?
The most rewarding thing about being a veterinary assistant is helping sick patients and watch them thrive and become healthy again! ✨🐾

- How long have you been in the veterinary field and assisting?
I have been in the veterinary field for 3 years now, and going on 2 years of assisting! 🩺

What’s something you wish more people knew about veterinary assistants?
One thing I wish people knew about veterinary assistants is how many areas we specialize in!
From b***y baths 🫧 to blood draws, filling medications, or even giving your pet a good hug in the examination room 🤗

- What is your favorite breed of dog or cat and why?
My favorite breed of dog is an Australian Shepherd or a smiley Labrador! I love how much personality and energy Aussies have, but I will always have a soft spot for a smiling lab🩷 🐶

- What’s one skill you’ve learned that you’re especially proud of?
A skill that I’m proud of would have to be wound care! Each wound is different which means the care for them is different too. I love to shave, scrub, flush, and watch the wound heal up!

-What’s the most rewarding part of being a veterinary assistant? 💕
The most rewarding part of assisting to me is learning something new everyday! Also helping with a sick patient and watching them reunite with their owners!

- How long have you been in the veterinary field and assisting? 🐾
I have been apart of the Veterinary field for 5 years and I have been assisting for 4!

- What’s something you wish more people knew about veterinary assistants?
As an assistant we tend to have many roles around the clinic and we are able to jump around if needed! Ex. Answering phone calls, taking X-rays, filling medications, drawing blood and much more!

- What is your favorite breed of dog or cat and why? 🐶
My favorite dog breed is definitely a Bernese mountain dog, they are just big, fluffy, silly dogs with huge personalities and they are amazing family dogs!

- What’s one skill you’ve learned that you’re especially proud of? 💪🏼
I have learned many skills over the years that I am proud of but, I would say having the honor of scrubbing into surgery with Dr. White is definitely the thing i'm most proud of!

🐾 Last but not least, Kayla!🐾

- What inspired you to become a veterinary technician?
I’ve wanted to be in the veterinary field since the 3rd grade. Animals and medical stuff have always had my interest which then led me to vet med 🙂

- What is the most rewarding part of your daily job?
I love a good comeback. Being able to help solve a medical mystery and bring them back to health or helping give them comfort ❤️‍🩹

- How long have you been working in the veterinary field?
I’ve been in the field since I was a junior in high school (14 years ago 😵‍💫) but a licensed Vet Tech since 2021!

- Do you prefer working with dogs, cats, pocket pets or farm animals?
I am most comfortable with dogs and cats, but enjoy the opportunity to work with other species! 🐾

- Which veterinary procedure do you find the most fascinating to assist with?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite procedure that fascinates me. Anything weird, challenging or rare is always interesting, especially if given the chance to learn or practice a rarely used skill. I do like to try to improve my radiograph and ultrasound imaging interpretation. 🤗

🐾 Next up is Mikayla!🐾 She is our newest hire here at AMC!

- What inspired you to become a veterinary technician?
I don’t know exactly what sparked my interest in vet med but I remember from a very young age I wanted to be a veterinarian. I also really loved Steve Irwin, he inspired me to pursue a career with animals. As I got older and looked into the schooling and requirements for vet school and decided I didn’t want to go to school that long and so I pursued a Veterinary Technician degree!

- What is the most rewarding part of your daily job?
The most rewarding part of my job is the hands on animal care. I enjoy using my nursing skills to help sick pets get better. 💕

- How long have you been working in the veterinary field?
I have been in the veterinary field since 2017 and a LVT since 2018! 🐾

- Do you prefer working with dogs, cats, pocket pets or farm animals?
I prefer working with dogs but would love to branch out and work with livestock/farm animals. 🐮

- Which veterinary procedure do you find the most fascinating to assist with?
I love ultrasound and want to gain more experience in that area! Also, I love a good abscess or grade 3/4 dental to clean up! 🤗

- What inspired you to become a veterinary technician?
Raising bottle baby kittens and getting to nurse them back to health! 🥰

- What is the most rewarding part of your daily job?
Getting to know long term clients and patients. Also using my skills and knowledge to provide care to hospitalized and surgery patients. And of course ordering inventory for the clinic and getting to spend Dr. Dave's money! 😜

- How long have you been working in the veterinary field?
9 years 💕

- Do you prefer working with dogs, cats, pocket pets or farm animals?
Dogs and cats mainly but also the occasional hawk or eagle. I do enjoy the challenge of a spicy cat too 🐱

- Which veterinary procedure do you find the most fascinating to assist with?
Anything venipuncture and lab stuff. I'm also a fan of scrubbing in for surgery when I can! 🐾
